A&W Canada — Restaurant in Halifax

I've been going to this place for many years, but this experience soured my impression completely.

I was waiting for service at the counter, and the person who was supposed to be serving me started cleaning instead of helping, so I assumed they would get to me once they were done. While waiting, I overheard the kitchen staff discussing a public figure who is a trans woman. One grill employee said this to another:

"I'm all about transgender rights and everything, but come on. That's clearly a man."

The staff laughed about the comment. The employee behind the counter finally stopped cleaning, but to my surprise, they peeked into the kitchen instead of addressing me. The cashier asked the grill staff to confirm if it was a particular celebrity they knew of, and they said yes. They expressed that they AGREED with the comments before returning to cleaning, overlooking me again.

That's an extremely insensitive and transphobic comment to make, especially with a transgender customer waiting to be served. Not to mention I was stuck waiting for the cashier while listening to this. Not going back, these guys clearly don't care about their...

Best burgers ANYWHERE. There is actual pieces of lettuce, not shreds of it, thick slices of tomatoes, a nice slice of onion not little minced pieces. Customizable too *example no mayo or no onion, extra mustard.. etc. The fries are amazing and are NOT over salted- they don't make you so thirsty you want to drink a litre of water, and they don't leave your fingers greasy, slimey and coated in salt. They are perfection. Not a second of hesitation in recommending A&W!! UPDATE I don't generally eat red meat because it makes me feel icky. But I will put up with it because A&W's burgers are just that good. My recent visit to this A&W location left me somewhat disappointed. While I'm typically a fan of A&W's food, the cleanliness of this particular restaurant was a major letdown. The dining area was quite dirty, with uncleaned tables, and the floor could have used a good sweep.

The food, unfortunately, did not meet my expectations either. The burger was not as hot as it should have been, and it appeared to have been prepared hastily. The service at the counter was average, but I expected better from a reputable fast-food chain like A&W.

I understand that fast-food restaurants can get busy, but maintaining cleanliness is essential for customer satisfaction. I hope they pay more attention to this aspect in the future, as it significantly impacts the dining experience.
