Hands down the best authentic Mexican food outside of Mexico that you're going to find. Julian uses traditional spices and chilis prepped the traditional way. Traditional toppings really complete the authentic taste and feel of the food! You won't find cheese on tacos, or lettuce, or tomato - what you will find is guac, pickled onions, cilantro, lime, and other traditionally used foods instead. Julian has truly brought the taste of Mexico to Canada!!
Every time we stop in, it's so hard to decide what to order. Everything looks amazing, and I'm never disappointed with what we pick. Chips and Ranchera Sauce are a must-have appetizer every time. Tacos, whether it's Pork Al Pastor, Chicken Tinga, Pork Cochinita Pibil, or Beef Barbacoa are always a a flavourful option. Beef Birra soup is wonderful, especially on a chilly Canadian day. Enchiladas, currently done with a green tomatillo sauce at the time of my update are my new obsession. Someday I'll remember to leave enough room in my stomach for Tres Leches cake or churros for dessert. Oh, and cannot forget Julian's take on Cafe de Olla with cane sugar to finish off the meal - no cloves so it is toned down a little, but so good I didn't miss the cloves. If you want to stay authentic, don't add milk - I normally take cream or milk with my coffee, but this doesn't need it nor does the milk add anything to the overall flavour.
Be sure to ask what he's got going for peppers when you're in too - last time we visited, he was making pickled scotch bonnets, this time he had pickled jalapeños. They make a great addition to any dish if you'd like to up the heat a little!
Last but not least, today I learned I can buy and take home any of his sauces when I stop by. I hope he makes Rancherra sauce in extra large batches, because it's now my go-to for any get together!
Edit to add I finally had the Tres Leches Cake and I'm not ashamed to say I didn't leave a single bit behind, it's that incredibly good! Photo added to prove it was on the plate...

We had guest with Celiac which requires top measures to avoid cross contamination, and Julian called me and explained all of their measure s like cleaning the deep fryer and making fresh chips and putting them aside earlier in the day, washing specific plates and cutlery and putting those aside, etc. We had vegans and vegetarians and they provided an amazing spread for everyone. Made my dad a unique dish since he doesn't like spices. Specifically bought me a vegan dessert since he wanted me to have a great dessert. Made a special authentic pineapple dessert for my celiac friend (neither of us could have their churros, which everyone else had). The service was phenomenal, especially for such a large group. Attention to every little detail. Care and consideration for every guest and dietary restriction. Even picky eaters were raving about the food. Will definitely host more events here!! Very reasonable menu options and price fixe for the party, $60 included 2 appetisers, taco board, sides, alcoholic drinks (get pitchers of beer AND freshly made margaritas which people loved), and dessert! And as mentioned previously he also made special dishes for people with specific restrictions or preferences. AND made a couple special dishes for the vegans as well!! And it wa sall SO DELICIOUS!
Extremely friendly and helpful staff, great menu, authentic, fresh, unique dishes. Cant wait...
Read moreI just wanted to tell you all about my wonderful experience at "The Mexican Way"! I went to check it out with family after a long day touring sunflower fields and blueberry picking... and let me tell you, it was an absolute delight!
First and foremost, the owners (a husband and wife team) were the epitome of kindness and warmth. They greeted us warmly and immediately made us feel at home, treating us like long-lost family members. They were not only very accommodating to all of our needs, but they also had a way of charming us with conversation while making sure that everything was done perfectly to our satisfaction.
As for the food... oh my gosh, the food was nothing short of amazing! It's like they sprinkled a little bit of magic on each dish (which are family recipes). From the rich flavours to the perfect presentation, every bite was a delightful journey into Mexican cuisine. I personally couldn't get enough of their Tres Leches for dessert – my nephew and I agreed that we could have eaten 10 servings!
We're already thinking about a future trip to "The Mexican Way" for more of their amazing food. You definitely have to visit this hidden gem of a restaurant. I've already told all of my friends about it. :)
So, if you're in the mood for some seriously delicious Mexican food and a warm, friendly atmosphere that'll make you feel like family, check out "The Mexican Way." You won't be...
