This month I had dinner at Fionn MacCool’s in Stoney Creek. I did some online research and was happy to see that they have a nutritional and allergen page. What surprised me was how comprehensive it is. Excellent nutritional information (including macros and vitamins), the allergen lists were such a relief for me. I knew exactly what I could eat before I even got there. From the outside the place looks small, don’t let that fool ya. It is deceptively spacious inside. We didn’t call ahead for a reservation and at 5pm got seated immediately by Dante. Our waitress, Taylor, arrived quickly to take our drink orders, as well as asking if there were any food allergies (Greatly Appreciated!). There was a slight mix-up with our drinks but Taylor was on it and promptly had it resolved. We dove right into mains, I ordered the Steak & Frites, and became concerned when Taylor looked uncomfortable when I said I wanted “blue rare”. I prepared myself for a less than perfect steak experience. The noise level and background music were not overwhelming and we did not have to yell to be heard. The mains came out and I cut open the steak, noting how easy it was to slice. The color was perfect! The char on it was perfect. The flavor was to die for! It melted in your mouth and had a flavor party that kept going. I have to be honest; I have not had this perfect a steak in a long time. This was beyond anything I’ve ever gotten at the Keg. The fries were crips, well seasoned and stayed hot for most of the dinner. The onion strings were also crunchy and not over battered. The Red Sangria paired well with it. Desert was Churros with a Spiced Chocolate Sauce and French Vanilla Ice Cream, oooh la la! Such a lovely finish to a great dinner! The sauce was light, not heat spicy just full of flavor. It was well accompanied by the ice cream. Despite sharing the dessert, we ended up bringing some home with us. A great place to have a solid meal. I was not disappointed at all and will go back. 5 out of 5 stars!

We’ve been here plenty of times for drinks and a couple staff parties. I’ve never eaten here though. The fella across from us had the Jameson Honey Garlic Bites and said they were delicious. I do know the bartenders have always been friendly and the beer has been cold. Update - My fiancé and I booked a section of the restaurant for a family function on February 3rd. We had a great experience. Our server Ilayda was fantastic! She remained friendly, attentive and placid through the afternoon, even in the face of an unexpected torrent of two large groups of Kevin’s and Karen’s hiding under of the guise of hockey moms and dads. I heard the one group unleashing on the manager about a 15 minute wait. One group did not even leave a penny tip on an $1100 bill (I should clarify, on 40 bills that added up to that amount). My entire group enjoyed every part of our afternoon, even in the constant flurry of miniature hockey players running around like it was their private playground as all the Kevins and Karens searched high and low for something to complain about. Thank you to Jacob and Jessie too.

Where do I even begin with this review... Arrived 7pm on May 26th with a party of 4, for some drinks / apps on the patio...when we arrived the whole restaurant was 1/4 full (if that). Seated outside, with sticky patio chairs / table that wasn’t even wiped down. We wanted to start the evening off with $5 coronas as their ad states $5 CORONAS ALL SUMMER LONG ON THE PATIO OR A BUCKET OF 4 FOR $20. After asking the waitress about the ad posted in the front when you walk in she proceeded to tell us that no promo existed. After going back and forth with her she finally decided to go ask her manager who said it doesn’t start until June 1 and that he could not adjust the price...will post pic of the flyer we ripped out from the front (no date on when it starts) so we decided to start it off with a Caesar and Stella (15 mins for that to come out). We then ordered 1 nacho, 1 garlic cheedie, to only wait 40 mins to get our food which should take no longer then 15 mins for any restaurant ON A BUSY NIGHT, ate the food with no cutlery and no napkins until the food was done. After those drinks we grabbed 2 coronas, when the waitress came with them she laughed and said “here are your not $5 coronas”...After we got our food the other couple with us decided to order calamari. 10..20...30...40 mins passed until the manager finally came out on the patio and we asked him where the calamari was. Very confused and frustrated he said I’ll go check on it. 15 mins later he comes out with the calamari (looking like dog food) said it only takes 10 mins to make this (which it doesn’t, even on a busy night) and we refused to take this trash from him. He got all worked up and asked why we did not want the food. We told him to beat it and give us the bill as we just wanted out. When we got the bill the calamari wasn’t on, but nothing was discounted for this awful experience, not even an apology for how trash / long the service was. We weren’t the only people complaining about service that night! WE WILL NOT BE COMING BACK!! MUCH RATHER GO NEXT DOOR TO CAUSE AND EFFECT

Reviewing a delivered order - We were extremely dissapointed with the chicken fingers; two orders each with three straps of chicken. Of those three only one was fairly sized - although I still consider it on the small side - the other two where barely the size of a chicken wing. They were very small and were hard from the fryer due to their size. Also ordered the fish amd chips which were extremely soggy from the drive. Couldn't finish because the fish and batter was just too soggy and not edible. I'm hoping I would have had a different experience had the dish been eaten in the restaurant. I get it's tough right now trying to pivot business models to accommodate for the current covid climate but I'm sure they could have done better than this on both counts. With that being said, the blarney chips killed it and pushed them up to earning a 3-star rating.
