The Capitol Bar — Restaurant in Hamilton

Came Here a few weeks ago and I was excited to come here and most certainly spend and tip well. We were asked for vaxpasses which none of us had. Considering well over 100+ bars in the city no longer require this, we figured Capitol wouldn't be enforcing this. With my two girlfriends, were very unkindly asked to leave because we were not able to show a Vaxpass. Just tells us only a certain kind of person is allowed to come to this bar. Only a certain variety of people are allowed. Capitol bar chose to Segregate its customers. We were made to feel unwelcome and promptly asked to leave the bar. After some thought. We are really upset. Really upset we are. It was very unprofessional and hurtful the way we were asked to leave. This, I think is a very poor business decision and a great way to limit your customer traffic and earnings. I'm glad we didn't get to go to the capitol because there are countless other more accepting and inviting bars and spaces in the city. Capitol bar ruined their opportunity to bring the community together; and you know what. I completely believe im on deaf ears. I don't believe for any second the owners or the customers who frequent care about how some people feel. I truly and honestly don't even feel comfortable giving this bar a second chance. I feel like an apology is warranted. But I anticipate nobody there has the heart to recognize the way some potential customers feel. I want to come back. I want to spend my money here. Stopped in for a drink, stayed for 4 hours!! Really friendly staff and a great vibe. It was quite busy for a chilly snowy evening. The live music (acoustic guitar) provided great tunes at just the right volume to still have a conversation.

They have a fantastic selection of whiskies and plenty of craft beer options. Lots of wines as well.

There is a small menu with a good range of snacks, including nice looking charcuterie and cheese boards. We tried the croquettes, shredded beef and potato served with a nice mustard. The stuffed mushroom caps were served with a small salad. They offer oysters some days and have a daily special.

The bar had such a friendly atmosphere, lots of chatter and laughter. The owners have done a fantastic job in providing a quaint neighbourhood bar and offering some top notch whiskies and cocktails. A real hidden gem on King Street East. Bar opens at 5pm daily. ...

Went for a drink, left to get food came back and one of our party was not allowed in. The claim was that he was inebriated, yet he had been served one drink. This was personal and rude. Denied water as well which honestly gave away the intentions. A patron was behind the non re entry and was rude to us. Her drinks were purchased after she was "offended" by being called beautiful, then she tried to add drinks and called our friend "cheap". The bartender kept our friend out for her, yet she announced to the bar she was going to the bathroom. She said she wanted to cut off my hair then after my friend paid for another round of her drinks she suddenly says, "Are you threatening to kill me?" Out of nowhere.
