Coupon time at Match Eatery and Casino last night. Little disappointing on a night when reminiscing. Last time we were here was with Mum when she was still with us at the end of last year. Mum treated us two kids to dinner with our better halves. Sadly at that time she took most of hers to go as she had no appetite. Food was enjoyable and no complaints. I haven't written many bad reviews as I'm generally easy to please and can accept some lapses. Yesterday though I had the "Godfather" meatball sub and need to highlight the meal. First take time and review the picture below. Are you inspired for that at $18.95 plus tax? A separate Italiano menu. Wow, I thought. I was hog washed into thinking something spectacular might be forthcoming. Honestly I'm not hard to please but seriously it should be named the "Poorman" sub. No peppers, no onion and I might guess it contained pre-made frozen bagged meatballs and it tasted like someone cracked open a can of Hunts ninety nine cent pasta sauce. (No judgement to fans) Or maybe it was "Catelli"? All on a small uninspired bun. Also was that bagged grated cheese? Might recommend the inclusion of some nice melted provolone slices instead. Finally it was all unceremoniously ladled onto the bun to ooze and drip out everywhere. Why not cut out a cavity and recess the meatballs into it for ease of dining. I'm not shucking down a chili cheese dog at the ball game with a cold one in my hand in the concourse. I implore the kitchen manager to try the dish. Past the overpowering tomato sauce you cannot taste a mention of any of the inclusions you state it is cooked in or with. Maybe there wasn't even Aioli or any mayonnaise under there. I couldn't tell due to the taste. Who said you couldn't mess up fries? I think when my first sub rolled into view across the floor of the restaurant and they made me a new one, I didn't get fresh fries. Rather I think my original fries got put under the plate warmer to wilt away gracefully. Biggest pet peeve if all else has gone awry with a seating. .. Never serve luke warm water to a tea drinker. Fail.🥲 My wife's shrimp and alfredo pasta was good to the point she cleaned her plate. Either really good, she was starving, or trying to make a point I don't take her out to eat too much coz I'm cheap. 🤔 My gran would say frugal, but nah, I'm cheap. 🤣 I'm going to go with the dish was tasty and not overly cheesy like some versions. Our server Olivia was quick, prompt and courteous, albeit we were ahead of the evening dining or drinking crowd, so not much of a challenge. She readily apologized that my sub went for an adventure across the floor but it was probably a good thing that she missed checking in with us as to our contentment with the food and the opportunity for me to express my disappointment. The food wasn't worth the price. Management and kitchen fault not the wait staff. Especially comparing to previous visits and when it was a limited time menu item by all appearance. Please don't add it as a regular item...
Read moreNice atmosphere for a restaurant in a Casino. It would be good for families also as separate from Casino. Nice atmosphere and the food is delicious, good portions. Friendly staff, we will be back ! Edit on August 17, 2025 - Definitely things have changed. My Wife and I felt like a dinner out today (Sat. Aug. 16) and decided to go to our favourite location in Hanover, The Match Eatery. We have had our tried and proven pepperoni pizza and shrimp alfredo, salads many times previously. This time pizza has changed, covered in olive oil, slippery and mushy with some type of spicy peppers dropped on top, not at all like previous pizzas I have had here. My wife's caesar salad was covered in drizzle for some reason, maybe for decorative purpose, but sure changed the taste of a typical caesar salad that she enjoyed previously. The alfredo seemed OK, but noticeably smaller shrimp. Unfortunately the high table we sat at had the stickiest table top, your arms would stick to it, the coasters struck to it. I believe the lacquer finish on the table may be softening from the cleaning as the whole top seemed very sticky. And flies were sure abundant at our table during this visit. We are very disappointed with this recent visit, especially the change in texture and taste of the food on our favourite menu items. Please bring back the tried and true taste to these selections and perhaps, if you have to experiment, do it on new menu items. This was our favourite dining place in Hanover and very disappointed. We'll chance it again with another menu selection on our next visit before we cross the Match Eatery...
Read moreWe stumbled upon this gem through a Google search, and it sounded like a promising place to try. It certainly didn't disappoint! Our server, Amber, was fantastic—very knowledgeable about both the food and drinks.
I ordered the Ultimate Mac & Cheese with Pulled Pork and Bacon. It was delicious; the cavatappi pasta was cooked to perfection, and the bacon and pulled pork were welcome additions. The cheese sauce was outstanding (though thinner than I prefer, it was still incredibly flavorful). It paired nicely with the Mill Street Tankhouse Ale. For dessert, the Sticky Toffee Pudding with vanilla ice cream perfectly completed the meal.
My wife enjoyed the Seared Tuna Basmati Bowl. It was flavorful, and the tuna was cooked perfectly. The pickled ginger added just the right amount of spiciness, and the basmati rice was perfectly fluffy and aromatic. The ponzu dipping sauce also had just the right kick. She finished her meal with the Crispy Southern Hand Pies—two southern-style crispy apple pies with vanilla bean ice cream and Kentucky bourbon caramel. I must say, I was disappointed; they were so good she ate them both, and I didn't get any (I usually get to help finish her dessert!). Sorry no pictures of dessert, it...
