The Red House Eatery — Restaurant in Hanover

We ended up stopping here after dealing with some unfortunate life circumstances, and this restaurant was exactly what we needed.

The staff were ABOVE AND BEYOND hospitable and understanding. Honestly the folk who served us tonight were absolute treasures and gave us a reason to come back ten fold.

The food tasted like it was homemade with love and care, with perfect proportions and fair prices for what you get.

The washrooms were an absolute life saver, being SO family friendly in both the men's and women's washroom, evidently pretty inclusive for all types of families.

I LOVED that the table we sat at had little Jenga blocks. My child played with those the whole time, and when we walked in I saw there were other toys and things available too to choose from, what a lovely thing to be available at a restaurant.

My partner, child and I arrived stressed out, emotional, overwhelmed, you name it. We were barely keeping it together. However, we left feeling revitalized, well fed, warm, and cared for. It felt like we were gifted back a little of the humanity we lost.

I came all the way from Sarnia to eat here for the first time… and the last time. This was the worst experience I've ever had. Ive been to McDonalds and had a better dining experience. The food was over priced, disgusting and not fresh. I ordered a steak with mash potatoes and poutine. The steak was 3 quarters fat , and not cooked, it had the texture and consistency of rubber. The potatoes tasted like i bit into a whole garlic clove, i threw up. The poutines fries were stiff and sloppily cooked. I was dining with 3 other people and nobody was pleased. The only redeeming quality was the water and 1 glass of alcohol, not even the beverages could wash down the horrible taste. I took a bite of the potatoes and poutine. I didnt even get to the steak it looked horrible. I do not recommend going here if you want good food and a good experience. We didn't get refunded because apparently the owner isnt a good guy and would be angry. I am very unpleased and disgusted that someone is able to offer that quality of food. I honestly think i have food poisoning. I am writing this a day after i had this horrific experience and am sick. Do not come here. My girlfriend and i wasted $100 on this...

The name is now the Red House Restaurant. The portions were small for the price. I had the taco salad with 6 nacho chips, small salad, some beans, and dry ground beef. For $16. The fish and chips 2 piece meal were 2 small pieces of fish (overcooked), practically the size of a Captain Highliner portion. The fries were good, however. Burger with a side of soup $12, the soup was good, but burger was overcooked. When we got the bill, we were charged extra for the soup despite the menu saying soup, salad, or fries as a side option (no mention of any extra charges). The waitress told us we had to speak to the boss (owner) DIRECTLY about it. Finally, after the boss looked at the menu, she decided that the waitress was wrong.

The waitress came, dropped off menus, gave us water and never returned. We had to flag her down. After everyone had eaten, she finally asked how our meals were (at the end) when she gave us our bill. After dropping off our bill, and the whole situation with the soup, we never saw the waitress again. We had to go and get someone to find her in order to even pay.
