Le Vieux Château Restaurant — Restaurant in Hawkesbury

This is an old-school Mainstay restaurant that had a large crowd of people coming in for Saturday night supper starting at just before 5 p.m. on a Saturday in mid November 2017. The service is excellent and they have a fancy section after that old school section with the booths and a counter and quick access to the kitchen. Everything seems of decent quality and the fancy section was rap accessible and that area had tablecloths and carpets and later Cutlery and nicely little place tables. The staff was plentiful and I guess they always expected a big crowd on a Saturday evening. My friend had the shrimp plate but said their shrimp was dry and you could see the vegetables were so overcook that they were wrinkled. I had the pizza and the door the pizza was I think homemade and it was tasty and it was almost perfectly cooked and I had certainly enough ingredients and maybe an overzealous amount of cheese. Not much in the way of sweet pepper on it but certainly good all animal fat and cheese fat dripping made it a decent Pizza as I smothered it with tons of Chili's and lots of Parmesan or Romano or whatever was in that jar shredded cheese that restaurants like this use. Other than a probably no more than a under 4 out of 5 rating I would have to give them thumbs down on having a dirty bread plate that the waitress told me was clean even though it didn't look at it so I asked for a replacement and she was quick to replace it. The bread was served hot sauce with butter with a cloth covering it in a nice basket. This restaurant seems to be a Mainstay of Hawkesbury Ontario and was referred to us as a good restaurant by a manager of a Bulk Barn store in the area. The biggest negative I found was a men's washroom with a dirty toilet seat and a very sticky floor and I found that quite upsetting. With a huge amount of stuff obviously waiting for a huge amount of people that come in they clearly make enough money to clean their washroom and buy a new plate rather than have it filthy dirty looking even if it is put through a dishwasher. The replacement plate was brand new clean and so is the one I had and I replaced my friends plate cuz I wouldn't let her eat off of that one for sure. The staff was friendly and they were of great service improving the opinion of the restaurant. I guess they being there so long that they're simply complacent and they make a decent quality type of food or every type of food in fact because the menu was quite large with many choices. Reminds me of the Greek restaurants in Montreal that aren't serving Greek food they're serving every type of food and this qualifies as one of those. it's an old school restaurants in the old part of town Servicing lots of folks that are happy enough with this restaurant. I guess I would try it again and see what else they have. I was impressed with their service I was impressed with his the bread that they say that didn't make it I was but brought in and purchased and I was impressed with that the fact that our waitress started there when she was 16 or 17 years old and it was 16 or 17 years ago so there is consistency in this place and longevity. I think my friend and I will probably check this restaurant right again one more time. The town of Hawkesbury Ontario as seemingly small as it is, seems to have a rather large number of restaurants. I'm not sure how they all survived but I guess there must be people driving in from all the rural areas to come into town in this pretty small town just to eat at a restaurant. I'll figure it out one day LOL meanwhile I can't say I give the place a for on5 but certainly it's just under at a 3.85 on five. Percentage wise that's about a 76% that's a decent ranking. I absolutely love the food there, i never was disapointed on that aspect there. But i went 2 times in the last month one with a group and one only me and my girlfriend, both time we had the same waitress, both time the service was horrible.

First visit took us 10 minutes to get the menus, and then an other 10 for her to take our drink order. We ordered a pitcher of sangria and a pitcher of stella. An other waitress did the sangria and she gave it to us, but for the pitcher of Stella we were told they ran out and it wouldnt be too long to receive the beer. We waited 10 minutes again for our pitcher, during that time and gentlemen at the table next to us had his draft stella... Finally we receive the drinks and we order our food, after about 40 minutes wait, she comes back with our food, i had an entree and a soup that was supposed to be served with my order, i receive the whole order all toghether, exept the soup, i had to ask an other waitress if i could have my soup and she brought it for me. When our order arrived it had mistakes in it, and once mentioned to the waitress when she finally came by, all she had to say was huhhh, ok and grabbed the plate. No tips from any of us that night.

The second visit was pretty brief in resume, we went in, saw the waitress was in charge of our section, but we tought maybe she improved a bit or maybe she had something that night, anyways we dont think much of it and we sit down. Only to wait 30 minutes and still did not get the waitress to our table even tho she saw us sit down. So we got up and went to goodies instead. In 30 minutes there i ate my food already and was ready to leave. 2 other tables were complaining about her when we walked out.

So in all, great food with great prices, you cant go wrong for that but service lately has been pretty terrible for us. We might give it an other try some other time of day to try to avoid her. Maybe we'll get a...

It seems to be a Mainstay place on one of the main roads around downtown Hawkesbury. Seems to be old and well worn and the staff members at least one we spoke to has been there for many years and still seems to be a young woman. The service was good but the place is kind of old and the food wasn't a 5 on 5 but it was okay. It seems to have a faithful crowd it's easy to get to if you have a car. I was quite put off by how dirty the men's washroom was . very put off in fact. however my picky female friend said the women's washroom was perfectly fine. service was good and the pizza was decent for me. However my friend had the shrimp which were overcooked and dry and the few vegetables were so overcooked they were wrinkly. However the standard Greek potatoes were fine. You don't pay $20 for 4 potatoes. It's not a Sun's Up on my list but it's okay and I'm sure some of the stuff is better than others and my pizza was decent. 3 on 5. Hawkesbury has a lot of restaurants for such a little town and this one should do it definitely do better. They should freshen up the place make the colors brighter clean their washroom at least the men's washroom and perhaps have some gentle piped-in in music with several small speakers playing softly rather than one blurry rock and roll loud tasteless music that's great if you want to be in the kitchen working and have energy but shouldn't be wasted upon diners.
