Coal Miners Cafe — Restaurant in Inverness

Saturday March 11th I decided to head from Sydney to Inverness for the day , upon arriving we decided to go to the Coal Miners Cafe for a bite to eat for dinner . Upon entering a very dated building we met the server we decided to grab a seat at the end of the dining room close to the kitchen . The server I must say was not very nice we did not have a very warm greeting when we arrived . Order time so she took the order and away she went to place it with the kitchen staff which of course was only one cook . The order came out in good time and was hot , the food was great no issues there but we had to ask for ketchup salt etc at one point I felt I may even have to get my own drink . I was quite disappointed with my experience especially coming up from Sydney 1.5 hrs away . The inside of the dining room was quite chilly and I felt I needed a sweater a few times while trying to enjoy the food . The waitress spent more time worried about the young guy at the bar instead of the patrons in the dining room.If you are looking for a eatery that has comfortable seating and great service unfortunately this is not the place . 6 of us came here for breakfast and when we walked in there was a musty / mildew smell.

Quickly realized this was not a cafe, it's a diner.

If you are looking for a cafe, try somewhere else.

My uncle had a hankering for lunch but he was told they won't do anything special off the lunch menu during breakfast.

My sister is vegan and she was only able to drink coffee since they have no vegan options at all, not even fruit.

They wouldn't even let my sister bring a vegan item in from the real cafe up the road.

Coffee was nothing special, a 3 of 5. The tea pot was leaky and spilled down on the table when poured.

Staff was very friendly and Pam was great, she redeemed the visit with her waitress skills and humor. Quick to fill the coffee pot.

Food quality was ok, good but not great. Eggs Benny not lemony enough. Bacon overdone, too crispy, but they liked both.

Waitress was great, fast and efficient Did I mention?

My uncle and I got steak and eggs and our steaks were cooked perfect except too much fat on both steaks, the quality of the cut of meat was not awesome.

Lengthy wait for below average service, we were in for breakfast. As other reviews have mentioned, the two servers stand behind the bar and shout gossip to each other, not paying attention to the customers (and this wasn't a matter of being understaffed, we were one of two tables seated at the time). We felt very unwelcomed.

When they took our orders they were quite abrupt, and sent our food out at bizzare times, sending a side sauce out when the meal was already complete. Food flavour overall deserved 5 stars, but the children pretending to be servers bring the whole place down.

Paying was a NIGHTMARE. Walked out laughing at how the servers have jobs, what a joke. The husky one threw the receipt on the counter, and overcharged rounding up as if a cash sale. We were bid farewell with "yup." Even though we didn't say thanks.
