Buffalo Rouge: Where Craft Beer Meets Plant-Based Innovation
Just a short jaunt from the heart of Kelowna's vibrant culinary scene, Buffalo Rouge stands as Canada's first vegetarian brewpub. Owners Liam and Crystal Mitchell have created something truly revolutionary: a space where craft beer enthusiasts and plant-based diners can equally indulge their passions.
The menu demonstrates that vegetarian cuisine can be both hearty and satisfying even for the non- vegetarian patron, the food pairs well with the list of robust craft beers.
House favorites showcase the kitchen's mastery of plant-based comfort food: their tofu fried chicken delivers a perfectly crispy exterior with juicy interior, while the smoked cauliflower wings offer a delectable blend of smokiness and spice. The Reuben sandwich, a creative reimagining of the deli classic, has become a local legend. Each dish celebrates familiar flavors while pushing the boundaries of vegetarian cuisine.
The brewing program deserves special recognition. The Mitchells have crafted a lineup that ranges from crisp lagers to complex ales, each showing the same attention to detail as their food menu. Their signature Hazy IPA, brewed with locally-sourced hops, offers bright citrus notes that complement their spicier dishes. Liam is a true artist of his craft and is delighted to talk with the patrons about the beer and his process.
The brewpub's atmosphere strikes an ideal balance between traditional pub coziness and modern sustainability. The diverse clientele – from curious tourists to local regulars – creates an inclusive vibe that makes everyone feel welcome, kids and young families included.
What sets Buffalo Rouge apart isn't just its unique concept, but how seamlessly it delivers on all fronts. The Mitchells have proven that a vegetarian brewpub isn't just viable – it's destination-worthy. Whether you're a devoted vegetarian or simply someone who appreciates good food and great beer, Buffalo Rouge offers a dining experience that challenges preconceptions about what a...

This was not just a “Ruben”
It was a damn good RUBEN and not an imitation or a meat option sandwich needing air quotes or quotations.
