Had an okay experience here when we stopped by for sushi during a trip to Kenora. Was dining with 3 other friends and 2 wanted to do all you can eat so we had to be split into 2 separate tables. We didn’t mind this because we understood that for the 2 that were ordering a la carte, we couldn’t be at the same table as the 2 doing AYCE.
My tuna maki and caterpillar rolls were great and the milk tea was nice and refreshing! My 2 friends that were doing AYCE noticed that their rolls were stuffed with extra rice inside the roll. My rolls (without doing AYCE) were normal sized with regard to the inside of the roll versus the amount of rice.
My 2 friends who did AYCE also noted that the fish on top of their rolls were SO thin that it was basically like a sheet of paper. Looking at other people’s reviews of this restaurant, I can also see similar roll proportions, many of the rolls seem to have extra rice inside of the roll.
The taste of the sushi was excellent, service was prompt, however it seemed a little suspicious that they would add extra rice into AYCE rolls. I’ve had many experience at sushi places and never noted extra rice inside of rolls so this put a damper on our dining experience.
Additionally their bathroom is located down in the basement with tiny stairs going down, it looked so dark and sketchy, was a little scared...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I are big fans of sushi and decided to try 251 Sushi, the residence of Kenora recommended we should try it, and we did. At our discretion they said service is in fact slow, And it definitely was. We were seated and greeted right away, although once our order was taken we waited 45 minutes for only one roll. Another 10 minutes goes by and we received our scallops. Another 45 minutes goes and by we finally both got the rest of our food. Food is delicious, good presentation. The wait for our food was horendeous and the fact that it was 1:30 in the afternoon and was not very busy makes me appalled. As soon as PAYING customers were walking in the staff was complaining about people coming in, Giving THEM business. The reason I gave one star was because of the food quilty and...
Read moreI was really craving sushi today so figured I would give this place a shot. Ordered the assorted tempura, a volcano roll (because of the reviews) a spicy shrimp and a chicken teriyaki roll. Slightly pricey but not crazy, I believe the bill was $52. Tempura was decent, however the sushi was very dry… the chicken teriyaki roll looked like it had a piece of chicken finger in it, avocado was extremely soft. Spicy shrimp had a small piece of shrimp in it and very dry rice once again. The volcano roll was decent but just loaded with mayo… I was hoping to have a good meal but was let down, very nice customer service. Maybe it was...
