Came here for the first time a few weeks ago to pick up a large order for takeout. The owner was incredible and so friendly and helpful! Loved chatting with him and he made the wait even better. The food was incredible as well - completely homemade and it showed! Huge portions and just quality, delicious food. Kudos to the chef and owner! I would have give 5 stars but the experience I had with the younger guy who “greeted” me was terrible. In fact, if the owner hadn’t smoothed it over with the conversation he had with me, I would not come back. It’s a shame that one person can ruin an entire first time experience for someone. As soon as I got in the door I said “Hi, how are you?” And the boy immediate went “what’s your order?” No “hello” back or any niceties whatsoever. He was so abrupt I was taken off guard. To while I started to reply and he rudely interrupted me and said “3 specials?? Is that what you got?”. Being that it was my FIRST TIME at this restaurant, I didn’t even know if what I had ordered was a special, as I wasn’t informed on the phone. So I said “possibly, but its my first time here so…” and the boy interrupted me YET AGAIN and said “well it’s not maybe. Did you get order the special or not”. I won’t continue on with the details of how the conversations continued on but you can gather from his rude demeanour and responses that he continued to speak this way to me, as well as other patrons that came in after me. I really hope he takes the time to read this and understand that this is not acceptable behaviour and that the least you could do is be friendly and not talk over your customers and in such a rude tone. I’ve worked in the same industry for years and couldn’t imagine talking to anyone that way. Being that I placed a huge order (well over $200) I made sure to tip generously but ONLY because of the owner & chef, as they were the only saving grace in this experience. If this tip was solely going to the boy, then he should know that the amount given wasn’t to do with his service, as it was unbelievably...
Read moreMy partner and I came here as an early valentines date; we saw reviews saying that the restaurant was very nice, and that the food was excellent. Upon arrival the owner held the door for us and seemed very pleasant, our waiter was very kind, and gave us a quick and pleasant introduction to the restaurant and some of the things they do. He explained the home made pasta and a couple of the specials. We ordered the spinach dip as an appetizer, and it was actually quite nice! For entrees I order the catch of the day, and my partner ordered the ravioli. My fish was bland, and his ravioli was slightly undercooked, not aldenté, slightly under that. I sent the fish back, and ordered the deconstructed lasagna as a substitute. The lasagna was unfortunately also not to my taste. The waiter came by to check on us, I mentioned that the new dish was just “okay” and not worth sending back. The owner then came to check on us aswell as the surrounding tables, and when he got us asked “how is everything” and when I answered honestly saying that everything I had was unfortunately not to my taste, he got upset and defensive and started speaking to me about how “this is how they’ve been cooking the fish for 13 years” and so on and so forth, he kept asking “what do you want me to do about it” to which I was uncomfortable and said, I’d prefer if we could be left alone. He seemed very upset, almost angry, and condescending while he was talking to me. The interaction just totally ruined my appetite. Unfortunately I won’t be coming back which sucks, because again, I had heard...
Read moreHello again, today I went for lunch to 271West Restaurant in Kitchener, Ontario. This wasn’t my first time at this restaurant, but it was my first time back at its new location in the bottom of a newly built condo on Charles street which was a nice upgrade of a space for this restaurant in my opinion.
First impressions was nice seeing the owner still opening the door upon arrival to the restaurant and greeting every customer that walks in with warm welcoming arms. After I was seated I was immediately told the specials for the day given water and very shortly after greeted by my waiter who was nice as well.
Today I ordered the Ricotta Gnocchi, the Penne Pesto Di Manzo, as well as a Veggie pizza. The food is still very fresh and both the gnocchi and the penne was made fresh and tasted as good as it looks in the picture. I did ask for salt for the penne, because it was barely under seasoned for my liking. I definitely recommend both dishes. As for the pizza I found it very watery in the middle, but that most likely has to do with a mix of the pizza being a Neapolitan style and the amount of water content that comes out of the veggies and bruschetta that was on it after being cooked, so unfortunately I didn’t enjoy the pizza, but I do recommend trying one of their more simplistic pizza’s with less ingredients on it.
Overall I give the restaurant a 4 star for quality, taste and the service; as the waiter also held the door and said thank you on my way out as well.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thanks for the read!...
