I don’t know how I haven’t reviewed this cafe yet, I come here quite often! Matter of taste is my go to in the evening hours since they have longer open times than most local cafes.
I’ve had many of their treats, including scones, artichoke pastries, peach iced teas, matcha iced teas, pinkalicious, strawberry matcha, etc. and all have been great :) their matcha especially is good quality and always refreshing. I need to try their gelato this year!! My favourites are the matcha iced tea, their peach iced tea, and strawberry matcha.
The atmosphere is charming and quaint, with postcard memorabilia and old maps of kitchener decorating the place.
There is plenty of seating, but during afternoon hours it can get quite full :) I often have coffee dates, read, or just pop by for a quick break here. Its also next to the second hand book shop so you can totally make a fun adventure outta that. They also have an outdoor patio.
Staff are friendly and service is quick.
Edit: tried their peach iced tea this year and their gelato! Peach iced tea seemed different to last year, much stronger fruit flavour almost tasting like apricots? But still refreshing. The GELATO THOUGH. Worth the hype. I got the salted caramel and fudge one. It was delightfully rich. Excellent chocolate flavour. I will be back to try their other flavours.
Update: their mint straciatella gelato is to die for. The banana peanut butter one is...
Read moreAs my last undergrad finals season comes closer, I am constantly on the lookout for cafes to study at while I enjoy a delicious cup of tea. During the last weekend, my friend and I took a bus to Kitchener to visit Matter of Taste (115 King St W, Kitchener, ON N2G 1A7). A quaint and picturesque coffee shop on King Street, this cafe is perhaps best known for the warm and friendly staff who go above and beyond to create a welcoming atmosphere for patrons. Hoping for a warm beverage on the cold day, we ordered a chai latte and a cappuccino. With the spice blend including a delightful mix of cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and ginger, the chal latte had a warm and comtorting tlavour protile that provided a cozy embrace with each sip. The cappuccino was a stark contrast in terms of the flavour profile, with a bold and robust character from the espresso offering an invigorating kick that motivated us to finish the rest of our studying. Should you find yourself craving a good beverage and pastry, looking for a place to catch up with your friends, or simply a calm spot to finish your work, Matter of Taste is the place to be. Conveniently located on one of Kitchener's most active streets, this is the serene haven that you are sure to enjoy! Warmly recommended!

Read moreI was one of eight people in the café, including the staff, when I was there today. However, my guess is that I wasn't part of the cool kid group. I waited at the counter long enough that I thought about leaving because I had yet to be acknowledged by anyone let alone the staff for a few minutes. It's probably because the staff were standing around a table, likely containing all staff, at the back of the café talking about nothing important or related to the café. Then I was finally greeted by a young person who behaved like she was just going through the motions because I clearly took time away from this person's involvement in the riveting conversation that was still ongoing at the back of the café. I paid in cash and still decided to tip, and by tip, I mean around the 30 % mark. Stupid, I know, but it is my usual benchmark, but there was no thank you for that nor any sentiment of "have a good day" even after I had said thank you and wished the "too cool for school" barista a wonderful day. Needless to say I will not return and I recommend that no one else go there for fear of a similar situation. I will just leave my home earlier from now on so that I have ample time to wait in line at the Show and Tell Coffee, who had a line and where I went before the quite disappointing experience at...
