Went there for mother's day dinner. The food was good the atmosphere was a buffet atmosphere. The part was not great was the service. The waitress seemed preoccupied with everyone else but our table. When one of our group wanted a second drink we had to ask a different server as we could not get our waitresses attention. Then when getting up for desert we had asked to take our dinner plates and they were still there when we got back. I watched her take 2 plates from others at our table and leave my wife's and mine there to get plates from the table beside us. I actually had to pick them up and put them on her station table myself and at the same time a woman from another table was doing the same. And she was really mad. Then to get a coffee was a real challenge. We were almost finished our deserts when we got them. And to get a second coffee, well that didn't happen. Yes it's mothers day and it can be tough. But after the lousy treatment she hands us the bill with a raised announcement (I'm told) 17% tip included, added to the bill. We were never told this when reserving, when we sat down, a sign at the door or even on the liquids menu that was on the table. I said there wasn't a hope I was accepting that. Then I got (I guess) supervisor one who said the computer automatically adds for these occasions 17%. My answer was "does the computer run things or do you?" Then I got a second person who said the same thing and then told me not to come back. When I asked her name I was told Martina, as she was not wearing a name tag. Then a third person approached me and when things started to get heated as she asked about the service and kept pushing I said I was not paying the tip, to please drop it and i would call the office tomorrow. I left cash as I'm sure there would have been hell if I would have left a credit card. This TIP situation since covid is getting really out of hand with lousy service...
Read morePlace hasn't changed a bit since I used to come here often with my parents as a kid. I swear it's the same tables and chairs in the same exact spots 😊 Even the brass bell on the wall that I rung one time not knowing what it was for, and almost cost my dad a Lot of money on a busy night is still there (spoiler alert, don't ring it unless you want to buy everyone in the place a drink, or think you can blame it on your 10 year old kid and wiggle out of it 🤣)
Menu has changed a fair bit. But all the old standards you'd expect in a German restaurant are still there. Was surprised to see chicken wings of all things on the menu but.... Turns out they make a damn good chicken wing as well!
Only thing that caught me a bit off guard was the cordon Bleu schnitzel now comes covered in the same mushroom sauce that goes on the Jager schnitzel. If I'd known I would have asked them to hold that as I used to just love the cordon Bleu straight up with nothing on it.... But whatever live and learn it was still delicious just not.... The way I remembered it.....Everything else we had was great. Kids even loved their chicken fingers and said the icecream was and I quote "The bestest ever" 🤣
Definitely will make a point of getting back here more often. So many good memories there and it still has all its...
Read moreWhat can I say? Don't come here as a visible minority or with children who dare be children. Staff are cold, sharp and abrupt. Members are shown preference and you can wait for 30 mins for your meal on their "cruise nights" due to understaffing. My 2 year old son needed a booster seat and I was told that "the two they had were stolen"....what family dining establishment has 2 booster seats that they haven't replaced? Clearly this place isn't for families.
What hurt the most about this visit was the way we were made to feel like an inconvenience just for being there. The smiles and comraderie is reserved for elderly German club members who look off their noses the moment your kid makes a noise. Me and my family felt out of place and not welcome and that is sad considering that my family have lived in Kitchener for over 60 years.
The only good thing about the visit was the food we waited 30 minutes for. My mother was told that on "cruise nights" you can't substitute fries for mashed potatoes because it's busy, so she had to order a separate order of fries. The menu looks the same as it did 25 years ago and I've had schnitzel far better elsewhere.
This is why these dusty old places will never survive and frankly I have no issue...
