Been here twice. Will be back many times!
1st time we went in the owner asked if we had had Caribbean food before. Told him "yes, many many times". He asked if I had tried oxtail and I said yes. He says "you haven't had MY oxtail" and proceeded to give us a plate with some samples. Bold statement backed confidently and for good reason. This is food cooked with passion. Anyone can throw ingredients into a pot and cook it. To get this level of flavour and tenderness requires skill, attention and passion. We ordered the oxtail and fried chicken and wow!
2nd time. Living an hour from Kitchener I don't have the luxury of frequenting more often. Having an opportunity to be running into Kitchener (late in the day) I asked my wife if she was willing to wait for dinner 'til I was back if I was to grab some food from J & K and, guess the answer. Ordered a large order by the pound. As I would be arriving near closing I figured calling with the order 45 minutes before arrival would be sufficient, I didn't want to inconvenience them. The owner and his staff waited for me to arrive to do a couple of the dishes as they wanted it to be fresh. This meant they worked passed closing. This time we had jerk chicken, curried goat, fried chicken, oxtail, plantain, rice and beans, coleslaw, soup, rum cake and I had a patty while I waiting. Everything was fantastic. This food is prepared with intent, not the product of someone just doing a job - this is the result of effort and ability. I wish this restaurant was closer for me. Also, as I had ordered hungry and while driving there was a misunderstanding on quantity/price. The owner immediately resolved any concern.
So it's not just fantastic food, this is good honest people, not afraid to go the extra miles to satisfy their customers. Not greedy, as the price and portions will prove to you.
Kind decent people making...
Read moreTried this place for the first time today after trying ALL the "Jamaican" spots in Kitchener. I had no expectations as so far all other locations disappointed me. However, from the moment I walked through the door I knew this was legit and the food would be good. I met with the owner who is extremely friendly and welcoming and a true yardie. I told him of my experience since moving to Kitchener and he gave me samples of different dishes to try before I actually placed my order. I tried curry goat - deliscious, oxtail - deliscious and curry chicken - deliscious. With a 3/3 I felt confident to order a few dishes. I ordered 1/2 oxtail, 1/2 jerk and their Friday fried chicken special along with other Jamaican goodies. The food was deliscious as I mentioned, perfectly seasoned and very flavourful. Made by REAL Jamaicans. I am so happy I finally found a spot that can actually cook real Jamaican food. It will not be my last visit even if it's on the other side of Kitchener from where I live. It's definitely worth the drive and I highly recommend it. This very pregnant woman was very...
Read moreHaven’t tried the food yet but walked in to pick up an uber eats order and told them my name. Then some angry dude just berated me for customers giving wrong names and went on a huge rant as if I was the one who was giving a false name. Don’t take out your problem with some customers on someone random who you don’t even know. No hi no hello just screamed right from the get go at me about needing driver licenses and people giving wrong names as if that’s my fault telling me to look him in the eyes and being all confrontational for no reason.
I’m not your pillow to cry your heart out on. Learn some respect. If you can’t learn how to behave in a civilized society without screaming at people the second you meet them then stay at home and get help. Don’t take your hurt out on others who did nothing wrong to you. I really have been enjoying caribbean food lately but idk if I’ll ever come back to this place again. Never had that level of customer service before. Maybe people who don’t look a certain way are not...
