I was honestly shocked by the way I was treated at this restaurant.
We were seated at a booth where the sun was directly in our eyes. Even with the curtain pulled down, it was still too uncomfortable to sit. I first asked our server if we could move. She said she would check, but after several minutes she never came back and continued taking other tables’ orders. I then asked the hostess at the door, who was kindly trying to help and was in the process of lowering the curtains. While I was calmly explaining the situation to her, another server, Tayah, suddenly came over and said: “please don’t yell. Also don’t talk to her, talk to me instead.”
I was stunned. I was not raising my voice at all — the hostess was helping me, and we were simply having a normal conversation. When I asked Tayah why she was treating me this way and being rude, her response left me speechless: she said she saw the hostess lowering the curtain and assumed I was bothering her. To accuse a customer of yelling or making someone uncomfortable based purely on an assumption, without listening or asking, was offensive and extremely unprofessional.
When I asked if Tayah was the manager, she admitted she was not. I requested to speak with the actual manager, who came over and explained that Tayah was under stress and that some customers can be aggressive — so she assumed I was one of them. While the manager was polite, this explanation did not justify what had just happened. A simple request to change seats should never have turned into a situation where I was accused and made to feel unwelcome. I also could not shake the feeling that my race may have played a role in how I was treated, which made the experience even more uncomfortable.
At that point, I no longer felt comfortable staying. We had just ordered, but I left without eating. What should have been a very simple seat change became an unnecessary and offensive confrontation. This was one of the most bizarre experiences I have ever had in any restaurant.
Update after owner’s reply:
I am even more disappointed by your response. To be clear: I never raised my voice. The hostess was lowering the blinds to help when your server, Tayah, suddenly stepped in, raised her own voice, and told me: “don’t yell, don’t talk to her, talk to me instead.” I was stunned — there was no yelling, no conflict, and no issue until she created one. When I asked why she treated me this way, she admitted she had simply assumed I was bothering the hostess because she was lowering the blinds — not because she heard anything in my voice, but purely on assumption. Accusing a customer based only on assumption is offensive and unprofessional. Do you really think I would take the time to write a detailed review like this if I had actually been yelling?
Your server was the one who acted aggressively toward me, and her behavior carried a racist undertone. Defending her actions on the grounds that she was “under pressure” does not justify treating a customer disrespectfully. Even your manager admitted at the time that this was only an assumption — not something I actually did.
I am no longer just disappointed in how your staff behaved, but in how you, as the owner, have chosen to respond. Rather than acknowledging what happened and taking responsibility, you dismissed my account and shifted the blame onto me. That is truly unprofessional and extremely...
Read moreWe have loved Bin 4 for years - we go to the Westshore location - it appears that management or ownership has changed and you can tell. We go the Westshore location for take-out or through Skip and our last experience was just soooo dreadful.
Ordered a meal for our son and they put it all in the same container. It's hard enough to get kids to eat veggies but we always order 1/2 fries and 1/2 salad. This time, the salad (a cold item) was put in the same box (I guess to save themselves the money) as the "hot" items ... really just warm fries, not hot and fresh, was put ON TOP OF THE SALAD, so what arrived was a hot salad - warm, hard fries - a burger that was cooked beyond recognition with a hard, cold onion ring on it. DISGUSTING!
I called and was told they've been doing it for months - when I said, this has never happened before and it always comes in a separate box, the manager told me NO, we've been doing this for months. I said, that hasn't been our experience, he again called into question my recollection of what we get REGULARLY and I told him, I would have called to complain if it was the norm, we wouldn't have ordered again if this was normal or I would have put in comments to separate cold items from hot. He was so rude and abrasive.
We didn't mind the high prices because the quality has always been superior but this is bloody ridiculous and so gross. Needless to say, we went out for another burger and missed practice so he could eat.
When your kid looks at you and says, I can't eat this and makes a face, you know something is wrong....
Read moreThe manager tonight went above and beyond to help correct and issue that had nothing to do with them, and everything to do with DoorDash. So grateful for her tonight!
Edited to add, she did even more to be amazing last night legit went so above and beyond. I cannot say it enough, Thank you em! And also thank you kitchen staff for all you did last night. You guys are all true mvps!
Legit when I called to talk about my issue, I did not feel like that I was a bother to them at all. The manager was so apologetic over the issue that legit had nothing to do with the restaurant and everything to do with door dash, I felt so heard, understood, respected, I was shown compassion, and just willingness to go above and beyond to help a situation, they didn’t cause just because they knew it wasn’t the customers fault and wanted to make it right anyway they could! I was rather unhappy with the issues at hand, ( that again wasn’t their fault one bit) and when I called bin 4 to talk to the manager for guidance and to see what they saw on her end, her positive bubbly personality and just willingness to help flipped my mood right around. Any place should strive to have staff like this, and a manager like her in their establishment! I’ve never felt so respected and heard over an issue before. Great job last night everyone and thank you again so much to the kitchen staff and big thanks and shout out to...
