A FUNDAMENTAL THING ABOUT SOUTHERN BBQ IS THAT IT IS WELL SEASONED. Not one thing we ordered had any real BBQ or Southern flavour and ZERO salt - how do you do fried chicken without a grain of salt 4/10? Brisket without salt and half of it just fat 6/10? We got $36 worth of Brisket and the edible meat would only be one sandwich worth - way too much fat not trimmed away. The Baked Beans were so bad that we didn't swallow the spoonful we tried 0/10. Ribs were good but again, lacked flavour so the sauces were very important 7.5/10. The BBQ side sauce was super delicious 10/10 - The White Sauce was VERY hot but delicious 9/10, the honey mustard sauce was like store bought with a little water added 4/10 and the hot sauce was good enough 7/10. The Corn Muffins were quite yummy and I liked that their choice of not salting anything sufficiently or at all worked with the cornbread because it was less sweet and more savory, which is very important for BBQ 7/10. The Cornbread should be served with a honey butter or some seasoned butter choices as they are really much too dry to be served without. The Lemonade was so sweet that there was no lemon taste and would have been best called Southern Sweet Tea with an addition of some tea, it would be authentic at least 4/10. We waited a long time for Jones to get out this way, hearing rave reviews for so long, we really wanted a better experience, we were sure we would have but after the failure of so many other BBQ joints over the years we realize that BC just doesn't truly grasp what BBQ is or about and unless you immerse yourself in SOUTHERN BBQ and all those nuances and proper, appropriate side dishes, you will miss the mark every time. The saving grace is that Jones is well loved because of a general lack of understanding of BBQ and so great! I do wish them success and I believe they will have it. We will order again trying the items we didn't try the first time to give it a fair chance and we are hoping to taste some well seasoned food. I will however buy their BBQ sauce and...
Read moreLet’s be honest—this plate doesn’t just feed you. It challenges you. It dares you to wear real pants after. This is not a light lunch. This is a commitment.
Let’s start with the beef brisket, because it clearly has main character energy. Half of it comes thick-sliced like it just stepped off a BBQ runway, smoke ring flexing, bark glistening like it’s wearing brisket cologne. The other half is chopped—tender, juicy, and a little bit chaotic, like brisket’s wild cousin who shows up late to the cookout but brings the party. Together, they’re basically meat poetry.
Next up, the pork rib. Singular, yes—but don’t let that fool you. This rib has presence. It’s got that sticky, smoky crust that clings to your fingers and your soul. One bite and you’re somewhere in Texas wearing cowboy boots and rethinking your life choices in the best way possible.
The sausage? Absolute sleeper hit. Sliced on the bias because it’s fancy like that. The snap when you bite into it is borderline cinematic. Smoky, juicy, and seasoned like it read your mind. Is this what happiness tastes like? Probably.
Then there are the fries. Golden, crispy, perfect for scooping, dunking, or just nervously eating while you pace around deciding which meat to tackle next. They’ve seen things. They’ve supported you through brisket highs and sausage lows.
The slaw? Refreshing, creamy, and peppered with poppy seeds like a polite Midwestern aunt who also has a wild side. It’s here to balance the richness and remind you that vegetables are technically still a thing.
And that bun? Soft, glossy, and absolutely unnecessary—but in the best, most “why not build a brisket sandwich right now” kind of way. Throw in a few snappy pickles and you’ve got yourself a full barbecue symphony with crunch, smoke, fat, and flair.
Final verdict: This isn’t just a meal—it’s a meat meditation. A smoky, saucy sermon. Go to Jones Bar-B-Que. Bring napkins. Bring...
Read moreA delicious incredible celiac, friendly barbeque joint in Langford… wow. Was visiting the area on holiday and drove in from Sooke to try this barbeque restaurant. I had heard in the celiac community on facebook that this was a good choice. This restaurant is located near the Goldstream area and has adequate inside and covered patio seating. We came before dinner hour, and it was quiet. However, there were a fair amount of takeout and pick up orders. The menu is easily accessible on the wall and menus can be given to you to sit at a table and read before you go up to the counter and order.
The staff at the restaurant were friendly and understanding of celiac. They were able to answer any questions I had. Deep fryer for tater tots and fries is safe as it is not a shared fryer. All of their meat are labelled gluten-free and also safe.
For my meal, I chose a two meat plate with tater tots and potato salad. It came with pickles and barbeque sauce. My partner who is not gluten-free also ordered a two meat plate, but chose potato salad and cornbread for the sides. The average cost of $27 per combo is reasonable for the amount of food you receive. we both had the brisket and pork butt. Both were incredibly fall off the bone juicy and delicious. (See pics)
I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is gluten-free or celiac. If you don’t have food, allergies or celiac, this place would also be amazing for you as well. We live on the mainland in Vancouver, but will definitely eat here the next time we come to the island.
Thanks for a great...
