My husband and I love Japanese food, so we were excited to try this place since it’s just downstairs from our building. We came in around 7:20 PM (they close at 8). The food was actually good with big portions and served with hot tea. That’s the only positive thing I can say.
The service was shockingly bad. First, no water was served at all until we specifically asked and even then, they gave one small glass for the two of us. Then, when we ordered menchi katsu and menchi curry, we were only given one set of utensils. My husband politely asked for another set, and instead of simply bringing clean ones, the Korean server literally took the chopsticks out of my husband’s hand, gave them to me, then took the spoon and fork from my hand and gave them to him. (She said that, “oh you must exchange because it’s wrong!!”) Take note: it’s already been used by each of us. Completely unacceptable, unsanitary, and downright rude.
It’s basic customer service to provide proper utensils and water without making customers feel like a burden especially when you’re still open. I understand it was near closing time and they might have been in a hurry, but good customer service should be consistent regardless of the time. We were paying customers, not an inconvenience. It’s a bare minimum for your customer!
Good food means nothing if the service is this unprofessional. Overall, the food was satisfying, but the service experience was disappointing. I hope they can improve in this area because the food is worth...
Read moreIt’s crazy to me this place isn’t busy. I kinda judge by the pictures online; the pictures really don’t do this place justice. I felt like keeping this hidden gem to myself cause it’s a pretty small spot but I’m worried they wont stay open if more people aren’t coming through.
Food: so good I went back to back days to try out different food items. Everything taste fresh and full of flavor. I only wish they had a better egg. I had their cheese menchi curry dish the first day. Never had Japanese curry before. So good. Second day I had the chicken katsu don. It had a dill taste and is served with some slices of pickle which was different than what I was expecting but the flavor combo was amazing.
Service is very good, complimentary tea. Owners are very proud of the food
Atmosphere is simple and relaxing.
Price: for the cost of a coffee and some donuts at think you can have yourself a soul food type meal. Makes no sense why it’s not packed. Im assuming people just judged by the pictures like I did initially.
So glad we have this in the hood. Cant wait to come back. One of the top hidden gems in Victoria if you like...
Read moreCame here for lunch and there was no line. I ordered the nikutama udon, bulgolgi don, and spicy menchi katsu. The chef gave us a small complimentary bowl of curry to try. He mentioned it was stewed for over 3 hours. Tea was brought to the table and it was very light. I’m used to strong teas but I really enjoyed this light tea and would definitely get it again. The udon was absolutely delicious. The broth was light, udon was firm, and beef was savoury. The don was so springing and full of flavour. The spicy menchi katsu was different to anything I have experience in fusion food. The meat tasted like steamed pork buns (not the char siu kind). Accompanied sauces matched the flavour. I loved the idea it could all be a sandwich. Now the curry, you cannot miss out. I dumped a lot of the curry into the udon and it enhanced the flavour. I am certain the curry udon tastes absolutely delicious based on the small sample. Tasted great with the rice and an amazing dip for the menchi katsu. I would order everything I ordered again. This is not a...
