First off, the overall service was terrible.
When my daughter and I arrived for our daughter/father lunch date, we were greeted with "find a spot" from one of the servers. Not "hello" or "welcome". Alright, we will "find a spot".
Once seated, another server came to us and asked, "can I get you something to drink?" (at this point we don't even have a menu, drink menu or otherwise). So, my daughter asked, "what do you have?" Servers reply while shrugging her shoulders, "what do you want". Well, that isn't what my daughter asked. So then I went to ask again, maybe the server didn't understand the question, and before I could speak, server states, "milk shakes, pop, iced tea", but with such an ignorant tone, even my daughter looked over at me as if in shock. My daughter replied with, "iced tea please". I asked for a coffee. The server doesn't say another word and walks away. A short time later, our beverages arrive with a set of menu's, finally, from a different server. We say thank you, and that server doesn't say a word. So, that is currently 3 servers, rude, no smiling, no hospitality, so its definitely not because a person is having a bad day, unless all 3 were, but still no excuse for the ignorance. As we start looking over the menu we finally received, the server that took our drink order comes to us and asks what we would like. I stated we only just received the menus and have not had a chance to look over them, and her body language was atrocious. She walked away. Approx 4 mins later, we knew what we wanted, and the server returned. We placed our order, server asked how I wanted me eggs, that was it, took our order and walked away. At this point we have had less than 10 words spoken to us from 3 different staff and have been there for almost 20 mins.
While we wait for our food, (simple poutine and mexi skillet), 2 other individuals that had arrived after we ordered, received their meal before us. Found that odd, as they had what appeared to be a little more complex meals than ours. Our meal finally arrives. Decent tasting food, which was good because at this point it has been a terrible experience. My food however, (mexi skillet), was luke warm, not "hot" like I would assume being cooked on the skillet that I was served with. However, I was thankful it wasn't cold.
Once we were done our meal, we sat and waited approx 15 mins waiting for a bill, or to be offered other food, more iced tea, or a coffee. Nothing. Was offered nothing. So, we walked up to the counter, and paid. Our server typed in the amount, then walked away and started chatting with another server. The transaction was complete. There was no, "have a nice day", or "come again". Nothing. We walked out. So, we've been there an hour, and out of 3 different servers, not more than 10 words spoken, though the angry, miserable body language said everything we needed to know, never to return and make sure others are aware of our experience.
This visit was on Sept 6th,...
Read moreIf you go by the reviews you might assume that this is a great pace to go for breakfast, and maybe it is, but our visit for breakfast fell extremely short of expectations. My wife and I were visiting Victoria from Montreal we selected the restaurant for our first meal of our visit. My wife just had a simple breakfast, but I opted for the chicken and waffles. I have had plenty of bad experiences with trying out breakfast restaurants and I figure the best way to avoid some disappointment was to opt for something a little less breakfast. So our food arrives, I started to eat when I can see the chicken was well past cooked, verging on being burnt, the buttemilk coating was a deep mahogany colour that was actually bitter tasting from being so overcooked. I called over the waitress, and pointed out the fact that the chicken was barely edible. She takes the plate and tells me she'll have the cook redo it. I sat and watched my wife eat. Once she was done I figured she would end up sitting there while I ate. But I was wrong, about 10 minutes later I was presented with a second plate, and the chicken was just as overcooked, verging on burnt, as the first plate. We went to the cash paid for my wife's breakfast. I thanked them for the fantastic breakfast that my wife and I had together. I always enjoy paying to watch my wife eat while trying to figure out where I can go to grab a quick bit to eat so that the rest of our schedule didn't get thrown into disarray by the inconvenience. I can't tell if this was just an off day, but it really set a tone for the rest of my trip. Unfortuantely that's my review. Lot's of parking available...
Read moreMy husband is a janitor at Turmeric next door. I wasn't in the mood for curry for breakfast today so I decided to check out what was close by. I was delighted to find this all-day breakfast place. I've lived in View Royal for 3 years and I've been in Victoria since 2008. I'm surprised nobody told me about this place. I came across it when looking at google reviews. In any event, Chef made me a Belmont Benny this morning. Bacon cooked to perfection. The potatoes that come with the Benny are also cooked perfectly and taste lovely. I liked to dip them slightly in the Hollandaise sauce. VERY generous portions. They aren't skimping here... In fact, I am finding it is too much for me in fact... I've only eaten 4 bites of the benny and I am full. But then again, I did probably fill up on those MARVELOUS taters..(Chef calls them "hashbrowns). In any event I think I will enjoy the doggy bag. Staff is outstanding and open to suggestions. Top Notch Service! Good wifi connection as well. I will be coming back for sure, the next time I am no longer in the mood for... good curry for breakfast. But that might be awhile. I'm kind of picky about where I eat. I've really got to be in the mood and I hate eating alone. :( Oh well... Can't be helped...
