I had a very unpleasant experience at Kava Cafe LaSalle. When I walked in with my service dog, the staff (a man who seemed to be a manager) yelled from behind the counter me in an aggressive and rude manner, saying, “You can’t have that dog here—go outside.” I calmly explained that she is a service animal, at which point they got quiet. I mentioned that it would’ve been more respectful to ask instead of confronting me so harshly and embarrassing me in front of the entire cafe. I will say the blonde woman felt beside him felt very bad and tried to apologize. However, the man did not apologize or acknowledge his discriminatory behavior.
The tone from the staff remained cold and dismissive. My dog was perfectly behaved—no barking or disruption whatsoever. When I placed my (large) order and even left a generous tip, they haphazardly placed the drinks in a tray without securing the lids. Two drinks spilled, and not one employee came to check if we were okay or offer replacements. Instead, they all retreated to the back, whispering, and avoided eye contact.
Eventually, the same staff member who was rude earlier came out looking irritated. We informed him about the spill, and he simply said, “Ya, I can see it,” with a rude attitude. They then rushed the remaining drinks, which were poorly made. The entire experience was uncomfortable and unprofessional.
For a place that wasn’t even busy and had so many employees on shift, the service was shockingly poor. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to others—especially those with service animals or who expect...
Read moreWhat a great hidden gem of a bakery/coffee shop. Kava Cafe and Bakery offers a delightful culinary experience, combining a cozy ambiance with a diverse menu. The aromatic coffee, sourced from premium beans, stands out as a highlight. From espressos to velvety lattes, the coffee selection caters to both connoisseurs and casual drinkers.
The bakery section boasts an array of freshly baked bread, my favorite being the foccaccia bread, a perfect balance of crustiness and softness. Whether it's a rustic sourdough or a sweet brioche, the love and effort put into these creations is evident, making it a haven for bread enthusiasts. The variety extends to gluten-free and vegan options, ensuring inclusivity for all.

The shop gets really busy and the staff can’t always keep up. Also... why do I feel like everyone walks so slowly here? 🐢 Maybe they're just carb-dazed 🤭
🥀 Pistachio Rose Tea Pound Cake Pretty in pink, but... tough as nails. The plastic spoon they gave me couldn't dig in at all — I had to cut it with a plastic knife. Mostly just dense cake inside. The frosting has rosewater and looks lovely, but it’s super hard and sweet. Gorgeous but meh in taste.
🍫 Chocolate Almond Croissant Even after reheating, the bottom was still cold — can you believe it? The chocolate inside was firm, and there was a bit of almond paste. Flat and not flaky at all.
🌿 Zaatar Croissant If you’re into Middle Eastern spices, this savory option might intrigue you. But the filling is a very dry powder. Unique, but not something I’d crave again.
🥪 Ham & Swiss Croissant The ham is pretty salty, and even after warming it up, the cheese inside was still cold 😬
🧈 The lamination is definitely better than Costco’s, but for the price point, the quality and service don’t always match.
Hope they keep...
