Disappointing Canada Day Experience
Our Canada Day celebration at this restaurant was a huge letdown. We arrived at 8:40 PM, confident that we had plenty of time to enjoy their āAll You Can Eatā option, as their closing time was listed as 10 PM. Unfortunately, the experience started going downhill almost immediately.
Upon entering, we confirmed with the server that the āAll You Can Eatā option was still available. Instead of using an electronic ordering system like an iPad, the server handed us paper and asked us to write down our orders. This outdated method felt inconvenient and led to mistakes. We quickly filled out our orders and submitted them by 9 PM to ensure there was ample time for preparation and service.
The first round of food didnāt arrive until 9:20 PM, already a bad sign. Worse, some items were missing, and we received sushi we hadnāt ordered. By 10 PM, we were still waiting for several items, including nine pork dumplings and seven rice bowls of chicken and beef. When we checked with the server, she claimed all our orders had been served, which was clearly not true. It turned out they had lost our order list and were out of certain items. They assumed we might be full based on what they thought they had served us, which was incredibly frustrating.
We asked for compensation due to the incomplete service. The staff offered a discount and six takeout bowls as a gesture of goodwill, three with chicken and three with beef. Reluctantly, we accepted, but upon reaching home, we found each bowl contained only one or two pieces of meat. This was utterly inadequate and a poor substitute for the substantial meal we had been looking forward to.
The compensation was inadequate. While a discount and takeout bowls were a step in the right direction, the quality and quantity of the takeout meals did not match what we had ordered or paid for. This half-hearted attempt at making amends only compounded our dissatisfaction.
I cannot recommend this place to anyone looking for a good dining experience. Seek a restaurant where your business will be valued and your dining...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe have been loyal patrons of Kona for several years, often relishing in their extensive and varied all-you-can-eat buffet. The array of options is commendable, and the sushi is consistently fresh. The service is warm, and the restaurant's ambiance is inviting, with its compact, pristine, and comfortable setting.
Regrettably, our most recent visit was marked by frustration and disappointment. We brought a family member along, with two of us intending to partake in the buffet and one preferring a lighter option like a salad. Our preference for the buffet is driven more by its variety rather than the quantity. However, we were informed of a policy stipulating that the buffet option is only available if chosen by everyone at the table.
Our server, seemingly understanding, inquired about a potential exception but returned with a rigid denial, suggesting instead that our guest could sit separately at a neighbouring table. When I addressed the manager, who was stationed at the sushi counter, I received a curt and unapologetic explanation, merely reiterating the established policy.
For us, long-time visitors, this was extremely disheartening. It is baffling that the restaurant would imply we might share our buffet with our guests, a notion both presumptuous and derogatory, over merely a few pieces of sushi. Consequently, we decided to dine elsewhere. Having visited Kona over thirty times in the past year, it pains us to withdraw our patronage and explore alternative sushi experiences.
It's lamentable that a rule rooted in inherent distrust can tarnish the reputation of an otherwise exceptional establishment, prompting us to reconsider future visits. It epitomizes the proverb, "The higher they fly, the harder they fall," reflecting how rapidly esteem can be lost due to inflexible and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I dined at Kona last night. The food was great, but the service was incredibly unprofessional. Initially, our server seemed friendly. He led us to a table in the corner and gave us the papers to fill out our order. We chose the all you can eat option, which we assumed included anything on that portion of the menu. He explained to us that any leftover pieces would have an additional $1.00 surcharge on them. That's completely fair considering the price of food. Knowing that piece of information, we made our choices and waited for him to return. Upon coming back to the table, he actually erased some of our choices and adjusted numbers to what he felt we could eat. Right in front of us. I guess he believed we were ordering too much? We hadn't eaten all day in anticipation of a larger meal that evening. Frankly, it was a bit insulting. Before anyone thinks we were ordering a crazy amount of food, we managed to eat it all and then ordered 3 more rolls and more appetizers as well. I had to ask him for a knife and fork twice due to issues with my hands. He seemed ticked that I wouldn't even try the chopsticks out. I can take a joke, but he actually seemed angered that I wouldn't "just try it." He even told me where to place the menu after we ordered. As in which exact spot on the table. A table for four people that two of us were seated at. Like, what is that about? After we placed our second order, he adopted a worse attitude than before. I think he realized that we actually did know what we wanted to eat. This man may have been having a tough night. Food service is not easy, however this event was for a birthday and it didn't exactly make a pleasant evening for us either. As good as the food was, I don't think we'll be celebrating an...
