I was going somewhere else in the vicinity and decided I would also eat out. I decided to stop there after seeing the pictures and reading the reviews. And oh boy... Seeing the age of the reviews and pictures I checked out to decide to go there, it's clear that quality has gone way downhill in the last year. Where to begin?

I ordered their chicken sandwich/fries combo. So you know, drinks are extra and are apparently at a premium. And this is one of those places which apparently decide to make customers tip instead of paying their employees appropriately. The whole thing cost me 25$ including taxes and tip.

As for the food? The chicken sandwich was average at best. However, the oil used to cook the chicken was clearly not hot enough as the breading sloughed off the meat. The sandwich had their sauce (which is good), pickles and a mountain of coleslaw. Easily the messiest chicken sandwich I've ever eaten. And there was more breading than meat. As for the fries, they're waffle fries and come with a tasty dipping sauce, which is good because the fries were overcooked and were about as hard as crackers and tasted like cardboard. And the fry portion was pathetic. Less than the size of a medium fries at McDonald's but way more expensive.

And if all that wasn't enough, the dining room was FREEZING. How the hell they managed to make it colder than their stairway connected to the outside on a freezing day beats me.

This place is across from an A&W and next to B12 burgers. Both of those places serve better food for lower prices. And you won't freeze your butt off while eating there.

EDIT: A few days later and I have to bump this down even further as I seem to have gotten some sort of mouth infection after eating there. Though I can't guarantee I got it there, it's extremely suspicious....

I have tried multiple times to eat at Cali, but the line was so long I never stayed. So the trick to eating Cali chicken is to go on a Sunday as close to 12:00 as possible!

I arrived at 12:15, and there were already people eating at the outdoor tables, and already a short lineup.

With only 3 other customers ahead of me it took less than 15 minutes in and out.

So worth that small wait!

I want to take the opportunity to say that the customer service is phenomenal,  and the process is very organized.

The simple menu is on the wall where you order, and then you exit with your food out the back. If you need help bringing your food to eat at the tables outside or to go to your car there is someone there to help you.

I have eaten chicken all over the US, and I will say that Cali has some very tasty chicken. The breading to chicken ratio is decent, the seasoning is delicious, and it was fried perfectly.

I like hot so this chicken could have been hotter for me, but it was adequately hot, and truly enjoyable.  The Cali dipping sauce was also delicious. There are other sauces which I am excited to try next time. The waffle fries were interesting. The bun was buttery and enjoyable, and the pickles were tasty.
