Fu Lam Express opened on Boul des Laurentides quite a while ago, and today we finally got the chance to try it out. One of the reasons we had not tried it out until now is because I had heard some lackluster reviews.
However, I was pleasantly surprised. It was good with generous portions. Not great, but if you like the classic 'buffet style' Chinese food then this hits the spot.
I called in the order and spoke to a very nice customer service representative, and was told it would be ready in a quick 15 minutes as it was Sunday at 5:00.
You can eat there, but the seating area is small and there is a lot of people going in and out.
We ordered the #6 for 2 plus an order of General Tao chicken. It came with won ton soup (ok), egg rolls (decent), pineapple chicken (good with more chicken than breading), spareribs (as expected), beef and broccoli (decent), breaded shrimp (enjoyable), BBQ chicken wings (good), chicken fried rice (as expected but could be better). The General Tao was better than I expected, but not hot and spicy at all.
As mentioned the portions were generous. I took a picture of the leftovers, and we have enough for another meal.
The price is decent, and an extra 10% off plus a giveaway of two spring rolls (good) or a portion of fried rice if you pick up.
I would recommend as long as you understand this is 'buffet style' take out...
Read moreWow!!! I didn’t think it could be that bad. And yet it was. I would ask anyone who has given the restaurant five stars to come over, eat what’s on my plate and tell me to my face that it was good. I won’t believe you. Let’s begin…
Chicken Fried Rice… more like bland rice with soya sauce and the occasional hint of chicken. I have NEVER had such disappointing Chicken Fried Rice. Literally… rice and soya sauce.
Won Ton Soup… how about warm water with large blobs of dough. Again, almost no meat to be found. Seriously, the worst won ton ever.
Spring Rolls… more like Fall Down & Rolls. The outer shell is greasy… period. The inner portion is actually soggy dough with an odd tasting filling. They made the wrapping too large so the inner portion of the wrap didn’t fry. Just got weird.
Beef whatever dish… again, bland.
Vegetables were enjoyable. Not particularly flavourful but definitely fresh.
General Tao… not bad, but not great.
I now realize that their other outlet is a buffet. This is buffet-quality food being sold as take out. Ça...
Read moreFirst of all, I want to apologize to the delivery person for under tipping him. It was this past Saturday and the order was close to 100$.
You were extremely efficient and polite and deserved a higher tip.
I had just come back from a 4 hour car ride and made a mistake with the tip. I apologize again.
As for the food. Unfortunately it’s been disappointing the past 3 times we’ve placed an order. The first time we thought it was just an off night, the second time we thought maybe it was just another bad night but it was still ok.
This last order was really bad though. The food tasted as if it was out all day, the soups were congealed and overdone, the meats were hard and difficult to eat, even the rice tasted reheated.
We didn’t even keep any for left over like we normally do and threw out whatever was left. Which for us is a huge deal. We never waste food.
Again. I apologize to the delivery person for our mistake with...
