People with allergies BE AWARE!!!! My daughter was having supper last night with friends and told the first waiter about her peanut allergy as she always does. There was a server change and the second server mentioned that it was written next to her order that she had this allergy and confirmed it with her and everyone at the table heard him. So he knew. then after her main course my daughter trusting the server , she orders a brownie . She took a bite and immediately started an allergic reaction!Realizing this , she took a Benadryl and asked the server if there were peanuts in the brownie, his face went white and said “you’re the one with the allergy !? “and confirmed that yes there were peanuts in the sauce. My daughter told her friends she needs to go to the hospital where she was taken care of thank god. While she was gone the friends were given a 50$ gift card to give to my daughter in compensation. I talked to the manager/director of Shaker Centropolis today to make sure this doesn’t happen to someone else as it could be very serious . All he had to say was the second server told him he didn’t know and that it was up to my daughter to be more vigilant and she was given a 50$ gift card for her trouble!!! Not what i wanted to hear. I had to insist that he makes sure that all servers need to be aware of the seriousness of allergies and that they should automatically bring the allergen menu before taking an order, as there is no mention of peanuts in the regular menu. The director said they don’t do that because they only have 2 allergen menu. Bravo. I asked that potential deadly allergen be written in the regular menu and his answer was it would be impossible to change all the menus in all the Shaker restaurants!!! So instead of reassuring me that he is really sorry this happened and he will make sure to have a serious talk with his servers and let the owners know about what could be done to prevent this happening again, he repeated many times the error was the second server did not know as if that’s actually what happened and end if story!! Will be telling many people this to make sure to avoid this restaurant as they do not have the safety of their...
Read moreI witnessed a situation yesterday from the staff on Thursday December 7, 2023. This situation demonstrates the lack of skills of their security guy. I came with two other friends, there was a couple sitting next to us at the bar near the stairs. The security guys came and told them to quiet down, because they wanted to remove the chairs for the evening. The man in question refused, explaining that his wife had a hip problem and that it would be better if she could remain seated. There was some argument between the security guys defending their point and the man defending his wife from being hurt. Once he saw that the security guys were not going to change their point, the husband told his wife to put on her coat and they were leaving. He was about to take his personal belongings as well as his glasses when Suddenly, for no reason at all, one of the security guys grabbed the man by the throat and literally threw him to the ground and there were 4 security guys on the husband and they were all kicking him. At no time did I witness any sign of aggression from the husband and wife. The man automatically curled into a ball during all the kicks. It was at this moment that his wife began to push them so that they let go of their husband and at another moment, once they were heading towards the exit a security guy violently pushed the woman injuring her. hip. I know that there was a fight between the two doors, but I know full well that the woman was defending her husband who was the victim of injustice, so I know full well that nothing justifies the security man being pushed as strong the woman.
The end of this story is that the man called the police and they talked outside without any follow-up to the irresponsible and disrespectful security guys. I often go out to bars and nightclubs and it infuriates me to see the security guys taking a “powertrip” on the customers. I do not recommend this place for the lack of security you will have there. Management should not tolerate and/or turn a blind eye to such violence and abuse of power that my friends and I witnessed yesterday. This is...
Read moreWent here for a friend's birthday dinner. Food was very good. We had the baked brie, wonton dumplings and I ordered the flank steak. All were delicious. And their cocktails were tasty as well (try the Tequila limon one). My steak was more medium than medium rare, but it was very tender and I like that I could get fries and a Caesar salad as included sides. Fries were addictive.
Having said that, I felt like I was 10 years too old for this place (I'm 36 for the record). It definitely has more of a party vibe, and there were several tables of 'woo girls' celebrating various birthdays or events. Anytime a table ordered a bottle or a round of shots it came out with sparklers and a confetti cannon. Fun? Sure. Disruptive? Very.
Service was also slow and our waitress was a bit scattered, but the place was crowded so that's understandable. What I wish I had known before was that this place turns into more of a club later in the night. They were rushing to clear our glasses so they could move the table to make space for a dance floor-type space. It pains me to say it, but I'm too old for that nonsense. I want to sit comfortably at a table and have music playing at a reasonable level that will still allow you to communicate with the entire table.
Seating was absolutely terrible. We were a group of 11, and the sat us at a table where all the chairs were touching and if you wanted to get up and go to the bathroom, everyone on that side of the table had to get up, as there wasn't that much space between us and the next table. And none of the tables were the same height, so people who were seated between tables had to lean to one side, or deal with a lopsided plate all night.
All in all, food was good, and I would go back, just maybe not on a Saturday night. I would still give 4 stars based on how tasty the food was. Make a reservation if you want to go, because there was a line up to get in as we...
