I recently dined at Houstan with my partner, and sadly, the experience left much to be desired. From the moment we walked in, the staff at the front gave us odd looks, which set a slightly uncomfortable tone. While the restaurant boasts a high-end atmosphere, the food quality didn’t match, and the experience felt off.
One major issue was that the menu descriptions didn’t match what was served on the plate. It felt like the recipes weren’t respected, and key ingredients were missing or substituted without explanation, which was disappointing and misleading.
Our server, though trying his best, lacked warmth and hovered awkwardly, making it hard to relax. On top of that, our booth was near the kitchen line, where loud chatter from staff training disrupted the meal. While I understand they just reopened after renovations, holding training sessions during service hours wasn’t good timing.
The food itself was a big letdown. The salad featured browning avocado and tomatoes that weren’t listed on the menu and didn’t belong, while the mango was flavorless. The lobster bisque had a rich base, but the lobster pieces were overcooked and chewy, and the dry bread didn’t help.
The main courses continued the disappointment. The "mac and cheese" wasn’t mac and cheese at all—it was rigatoni with a bland, semi-cheesy white sauce, and the noodles had dried out. The chicken skewers were okay but lacked flavor, and the risotto wasn’t cooked properly; the wine wasn’t reduced, leaving an overpowering alcoholic taste.
Desserts were inconsistent. While the chocolate cake was good, the mille-feuille was soggy and unappetizing, and the crème brûlée was burnt.
The only highlight of the meal was the fries, which we enjoyed. However, the overall experience felt like style over substance. With mismatched menu descriptions, overpriced dishes, and a pretentious atmosphere, Houstan fell short on all fronts. We won’t...
Read moreI held a private event for my husbands 30th at this resto, and there were a lot of unprofessional mistakes/errors/mishaps that occurred that I was truly disappointed with:
The menu had the wrong name of my husband and then they had to change it DURING the time my guests had arrive - I would have expected a quality check for all this BEFORE arriving and having to clarify.
Waitress/waiter service was EXTREMELY slow and we had to keep reaching out and leaving the room for someone to come help us.
One of the waitresses was extremely rude and told off my husband who was the main guest, for switching spots. She spoke to him in a very condescending tone, she didn’t seem to know nor want to know that me and him were the ones organizing this entire event at Houston. Extremely rude. We should be allowed to switch spots if we want to, to speak to our guests.
The cake that I brought in and then wanted to leave with, was not brought back out to me. The restaurant workers kept the box and the cake. I waited 20 minutes for it, asked 2 workers who basically ignored me, and finally got frustrated and left. It was completely unprofessional, I paid a lot for this cake and there was a lot leftover as well that I should be able to take back home.
The waitresses did not care about the guests nor did they ask if we needed anything, if the food was okay, and if they could refill our water. Really shocked by the service here.
Overall, a really disappointing and sad experience for my guests and...
Read moreI come here regularity with my partner, they have excellent service and food NORMALLY which is why I was so disappointed because I organized an event here with my family and friends for a birthday and Houston’s let me and then down… this particular visit was the worst experience I’ve ever had with birthday parties / event.
On Friday august 4th I had a reservation for 17 people, we all ordered our drinks and the drinks took about 30 mins to be served, okay whatever. It was long but we got them and we drank.
We ordered our food, and the food took almost 2 1/2 - 3 hours for our food and some of our friends to have their food arrive. We got to this restaurant at 7:30 and we just ate our appetizers at 9:30pm 10:00pm the food arrived and some of our guests did not even eat yet and still was waiting, by 10:30 everyone had their food (appetizers and main courses) and it was just super late and slow. We felt like the servers did not care and they didn’t even come that much to give us water / refill glasses. I won’t be organizing an event here again with my friends unfortunately. I’ll come back on a one on one date with my partner though however if the service was better 17 more people would come back on their personal time and you’ve now lost future business from them unfortunately..
Food was just okay this time. it was way to long and my salmon was a bit cold and some of my friends complained as well about their...
