Ordered a Chocolate milkshake, beef dip with fries and gravy.
Milkshake wasn't bad, Aubrey made it nice and thick. Not the biggest ever but I would say reasonable for the price and real ice cream not ice milk. And it's much better presented than my meal!
Got a very good portion of fries although I'm not a fan of shoestring - but that is a me issue!
Sandwich tasted okay but frankly I had to bring half of it home, somewhat soggy on the bottom and inside. I guess that is what my frying pan is for.
Gravy was lukewarm, au jus was lukewarm.
Things that would have made a world of difference:
Sandwiches, especially elongated ones should be cut on an angle it makes it easier for the customer to have a starting point. (That's the purpose in case you're wondering)
What happened to the nice little garnish, a couple slices of Orange or something?
Wiping the cup holding the au jus - needed to catch a bus can't really do that with the au jus dripped on my shirt. And definitely weren't busy enough to skip over it. Serving a cup with juice slopped all over half of it, pretty tacky. Wish I had photographed that better.
Unclear if it was the manager or the owner working the till. Must have been having a horrible day, seemed pretty miserable. He did apologize but when I explained only a little of above he was pretty dismissive. I guess maybe he hasn't been in the food industry very long.
Hot condiments being hot.
Beef dip bun should have been grilled on the inside with a bit of margarine butter or garlic butter. Certainly would have helped the sogginess and texture. It also helps the bread to maintain its shape and texture after dipping -again it has a purpose.
Aubrey was sweet, she asked if there was anything she could do. Order was correct, food was fast - maybe too fast, definite lack of care. She got five stars, the manager or owner got 3.
Menus are terribly faded, to the extent that couldnt always read it or see prices.
It was however wonderfully quiet. And I enjoyed my table companions Bubbles, Bob, Suki and Edwin. (I named the goldfish, seemed a reasonable thing to do)
Rather undecided if I'd ever go back. Left about 5 minutes after I got my food, yet took nothing off the bill when I was obviously unhappy. (No I did not expect the meal to be free, but an offer of desert or a few dollars off would have shown a little...
Read moreI am a person who has been going to Smitty's for 21 years straight during my new Canadian life, and there has never been a problem. However, I was mistreated by a server on the lounge side a few months ago because I was simply sitting alone reading a book and minding my own business. Due to me being there alone, the server on lounge side complained about me being alone to staff and in front of customers. I heard the server speak unkindly out loud not only to her fellow staff, but also in front of customers because I was simply just sitting there reading alone. Btw i heard the comments from across the lounge. This level of disrespect came across as xenophobic to a new Canadian who has to work hard here no different than your European families who settled here. When the server came around to refill my coffee. I was told to stop talking because I had a different accent.Next time I visit this location, I have a good reason to request that the manager serve me instead. As he allows me to simply "ask" for a refill with...
Read moreFor starters, the service was incredibly slow. Our four kids drinks came well after ours. Anyone with kids knows how much fun that is…We both ordered the quesadillas. According to the menu, it says a tortilla filled with chicken, cheese etc with a side for 18.99. What you actually get is half a tortilla and a side, unlike the Smitty’s on the West side (it’s a full tortilla and fries). When we asked about it we were told you can get a full quesadilla with no fries or a half quesadilla with fries for that price ( this is not indicated on the menu though). We asked for a full quesadilla, so she brought us another. Rather than charging us for a side of fries, they charged us another 18.99. So our meals cost 30.00 each. They had hardly any chicken and were very undercooked. Disappointed in the service, the quality of the food and the price (it was just under $100 for a couple of quesadillas and four kids meals). Do yourself a favour and PASS on...
