My husband and I went for a date Friday night dinner at Madame Thai this summer, hoping for a pleasant evening out. The ambiance was lovely and the food was truly delightful, meeting all our expectations. We usually do takeout, life is busy, so we were happy to have a relaxing evening at one of our favourite restaurants. However, our experience took a turn for the worse towards the end. Our server rushed us out prematurely. With more than half of our drinks still left, he approached our table, having already received his 30% tip, which was mainly based on the fact that we like the restaurant, and informed us that they were closing soon. We were taken aback, especially considering it was still 30 minutes before the official closing time.
While we genuinely enjoy their culinary offerings, being asked to hurry up and leave felt disrespectful. I don’t know if he dared to be so impolite because we were chill and in a great mood that evening and maybe he figured we won’t mind. A restaurant's primary aim should be to ensure a comfortable and memorable experience for its patrons. Otherwise, I can cook at home or get takeout. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case for us this evening. We understand the importance of closing on time, but I believe there's a way to communicate this without making guests feel unwelcome.
Given the unpleasantness of the situation, we've decided not to return. It's essential for establishments to treat their customers with respect and courtesy, and this incident overshadowed the otherwise enjoyable aspects...
Read moreI was visiting from Massachusetts the week of October the 8th, and to settle down before checking out Montreal, I decided to grab food from here.
First and foremost, I'd like to say the food was delicious, the staff was kind and attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. I had an order of dumplings and a tom yum soup and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and how inexpensive it was. Props are in order for all those working here: you put your heart and soul into your craft.
Secondly, I keep seeing reviews mentioning the "authenticity" of the food. I've had Thai food from Thai people directly and this is pretty damn Thai.
Thailand is not some monolithic heap of drones that make every single dish exactly the same way, every single time. It's a rich and vibrant culture that, like all cultures, is constantly built upon and shifting, changing slowly but surely as time goes on.
To say a dish is inauthentic because some things are slightly different and modified from the original source goes against the very foundation of culinary art itself.
As far as I'm concerned, you fine folks on the service staff and in the kitchen represent the very best of what culinary work can be, and I'm glad that I got to experience that.
Thank you for the...

The restaurant itself is beautiful, the seating is cosy, never too busy and the atmosphere takes you to a whole other place. The waiters are attentive and the service itself was very quick.
My friend and I went on a Sunday evening during the summer, expecting it to be full but it wasn't. We chose the menu for two, which came down to approximately 50$ for both of us, which is very affordable.
The food itself was good, not anything out of the ordinary. The best two plates that we've had were the mango salad and the général Thai chicken.
However, I was quite disappointed by the food for one important reason: I had told the waitress I did not want cilantro at all costs because I cannot tolerate it. She said it was not a problem and that they could make the food without it easily. Perhaps, she might've forgotten because the food came full of cilantro and even removing it, it's a herb so the taste was still impregnated in the food.
If I were to go again, I would only order one plate, because the soup we've had as an entrée wasn't...
