茶記 Cha Kee Restaurant (Markham) — Restaurant in Markham

Cha Kee is modern, clean and I was impressed with the number of staff working here. I was greeted right away by a friendly staff and got seated.

As I examined the menu, I noticed they don't offer the typical "Cha Chan Tang" afternoon tea special, instead they offer many "Daily Special" and "All-Day Menu". Nevertheless, the pricing is reasonable, it's competitive from other Cha Chan Tang in the nearby area.

I ordered a grilled pork chop soup noodles, ideally, I prefer "Ho Fun" but they don't offer that, as they offer rice noodles, spaghetti or macaroni. I chose spaghetti. The meal was $10.99 CDN + tax and including a hot or cold beverage. Interestingly, cold beverage is no extra charge, which many other places asked for extra $1.50 for cold beverage and no extra cost for hot beverage. I opted for a cold iced lemon tea.

Within 2 seconds, they already handed me the lemon tea, which was the only slight drawback. Normally, other places would take their time to brew the tea and then prepare the lemon tea. Clearly this place has pre-prepared a bunch of iced lemon tea so whoever ordered, they just hand it to the customers, which I prefer not being handed to me so quickly as I am not in a rush. Other than that, the iced lemon tea was served in a big plastic cup and it's flavourful.

Then, my grilled pork chop soup noodles arrived. Kudos to the Cha Kee for serving the grilled pork chop on a separate plate from the soup noodles so that the pork chops aren't being soggy flowing on the broth. Many places don't care and just serve it in one bowl to save washing an extra plate but pork chop being served on a separate avoid the meat from being soggy in the broth. They also asked if I want the pork chop to be wholesome or prefer to be cut into strips to be easier to be indulged which is very attentive. Thank you Cha Kee!

The broth has a good flavour and I appreciate the sprinkle of green onions.

I do, however wish Cha Kee offers fried pork chop or pork cutlet as I prefer more crispy meat than just grill. Thus, I do wish they offer various cooking style of the pork chop.

Overall, I like how clean and modern this restaurant is. The friendly staff and they offer 10% off if pay by cash.

Moreover, I enjoy the food menu design, it's cute and I like the font, it's very inviting to look over the entirety of the food offerings.

Take out service: Upon arrival, although they are not fully renovated due to the pandemic, their restaurant is clean and tidy, staff is fully equipped and understands social distancing and sanitization rules. They have also posted notices from the government in regards to these regulations. There are many reminders to raise awareness for social distancing. Hand sanitizer is also available at the pick up table.

Right as we entered, all the staff greater us with hospitality and professionalism. Their service was just as wonderful as their Richmond Hill location.

Take out food quality: I had ordered via their website for 3 combo items to be paid in store. The food was packaged nice and neatly. The food was still super hot when I received it. The drinks were made on the spot upon arrival (I had ordered some iced drinks too).

黯然銷魂飯 - Pan-Fried Pork Party w/ Sunny Side Up Egg on Rice - Very interesting fusion concept. To be honest I didn't know what to expect when I received it as there were no description on their website. But when I picked up my food in store I had picked up their paper menu too and on that they're were English translation. It was good but not as enticing as other traditional dishes. AD10 $10.99

咖哩牛腩意粉 Curry Beef Brisket on Spaghetti (changed from rice) - I had changed my rice to spaghetti. Delicious taste. Still hot when I picked it up. Briskets were tender. I like things super saucy so for me, this could use a bit more sauce. AD03 $13.99

I had a very frustrating and disappointed lunch. Originally, I debated if I should do take out with since last time hubby complained about their no taste coffee/milk tea and black pepper sauce. But since it’s kind of close to our home, I’ll give it another try since we are always in a rush in the morning before I head to work. I used their online order. Last time, I remembered paying by credit card online. This time, they have an option to pay in store, so I chose that option. However, NO WHERE on the website or at their entrance that they ONLY accept cash or debit if I PAY-IN-PERSON. If I knew earlier, I would have prepared cash or debit. However, I went there without knowing, I did not have any cash or debit card with me, only credit cards (visa & MasterCard...anything they like). The staff there wasn’t helpful at all and kind of funny he told me to go the nearest bank, but i don’t even have a debit card with me how do I cash out any money?!?! So, in the rain, I had to rush home to get cash. I told the staffs that there’s nothing on the website or at the door that it is cash or debit only. The staff was very rude and told me all the customers “should” know. I was shocked 😳 because I guess they don’t welcome new customers because I don’t think EVERYONE knows that rule. I mean during COVID, shouldn’t we minimizing using cash?! Now, with all the time delay, I can’t even finish my lunch before work because I wasted so much time driving back and forth. Food was cold (at least they kindly enough to make a new order for me at the end). They made me wait outside in the rain and thunder even though there weren't much people in the restaurant. I would definitely not recommend anyone to go order there and at least from before I was hyped about their opening in Markham to now, I know there are many other choices in Markham area that has better quality of food and...
