I have never been so disappointed in a restaurant as I was last night.
Last night Sept 12, was my husbands birthday and we usually like to try out new restaurants, so needless to say we decided to give Draco a try.
Before even getting to the restaurant we were greeted by the hostess who was super pleasant. Our server Trevor came out and took our drink order. The bartender was great. To be honest, she seemed like the hardest working person in the front of the house; but I'll get to that after.
We ordered the king Cole duck confit poutine and the crab cakes to start, along with our ocean breeze and a pina colada (can't remember the exact name). The poutine (along with the drinks) were the best part of the night. You get a generous portion for the price and it was very tasty, a little on the salty side but tasty nonetheless. The crab cakes were a little on the disappointing side. For the price you pay, they were rather small and they didn't seem to have cleaned the crab properly, as there were bits of the shell in every bite.
Now for the main course. We both got the grilled beef tenderloin, his medium-rare and mine medium. First off they were a little burnt and super salty. His was more of a medium cook than medium rare while mine was more medium-well. The broccoli had little to no seasoning but was still good. The mash was nothing memorable. It was very generic and bland, no flavoring whatsoever, mine was even lacking salt. The shrimp was alright, again mine was a little salty but nothing compared to the beef.
Our server, Trevor, at the beginning was great, attentive and helpful, but towards the end of the night things got bad. After we finished our meals he took an extremely long time to come over to clear the dishes or ask of we wanted dessert. Instead he was at the bar with another waiter just chatting. When he finally came, he gave us time to think which was great but he didn't come back for another 15mins...by this point we were visibly upset and he still opted to chat at the bar. It was so bad that we didn't want dessert nor did I ask if they did anything for birthday's, which I had mentioned in my reservation!
Needless to say, this was such a horrible experience. I'm quite upset that it was my husbands birthday when it happened too! I doubt we will ever be...
Read moreAfter working a 22-hour shift on Saturday, I decided to treat myself to a quiet breakfast and a slow morning at Draco in Markham — and I’m so glad I did.
I was greeted warmly within a minute of walking in, and shortly after being seated, my server Harold came by to welcome me and ask if I’d like anything to drink. I ordered a large glass of water with lemon and a latte, and asked him for a few fan favourites or personal recommendations. Without skipping a beat, he described the pancakes and chicken & waffles with genuine enthusiasm — not just listing ingredients, but sharing small touches, like how Frankie in the kitchen makes the thickest, fluffiest pancakes, and how the same batter is used for the waffles.
It was a real recommendation, not just a script — and I appreciated that.
When my drink arrived, I was impressed again: a large bottle of water, my glass, and neatly sliced lemon rounds on a side plate. Simple, thoughtful touches that go a long way.
And the chicken & waffles? Absolutely divine. Both the waffle and the chicken were perfectly crisp on the outside, yet soft on the inside — the texture combination was spot on. But the true star? That fried chicken with the maple syrup. I’m officially obsessed.
Harold was kind, attentive, and incredibly professional. He checked in just enough, but also gave me the space to enjoy my meal and catch up on a bit of work. As someone who used to manage Food & Beverage in hotels, I know what excellent service looks like — and Harold went beyond that. He didn’t just serve, he connected, and that’s what hospitality is all about.
The food was great, but Harold made the experience exceptional. I’ll...
Read moreMy wife and I celebrated our one-year anniversary at Draco Markham, and it was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and exceptional service. The ambiance was perfect for a romantic evening, with elegant décor and a cozy atmosphere.
Krystal, our waitress, truly made our night special. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and had a genuine warmth that made us feel right at home. It also helps that she has a great sense of humour! Her recommendation of their signature smoky old fashioned was spot on—it was the best I’ve ever had. The dinner menu offered a fantastic variety of dishes, and every item we tried was exquisite. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the presentation was beautiful. We particularly loved the Draco Green Salad, Pan-Seared black cod, Steak and Frites….and the chocolate lava cake – you just can’t have enough of it!
Throughout the evening, Krystal provided 5-star service without being intrusive.
A special mention goes to Harold, the Manager, who took care of my flower delivery and reserved the best table for us. Over the course of two days, I was able to communicate with him to get the details right. His attentiveness to detail and dedication went above and beyond, making this the most memorable dinner we’ve had to date.
We were both so impressed with the level of service (from the wait staff to the bartender) and the quality of food that we will DEFINITELY be returning. Thank you, Krystal and Harold, for making our anniversary so special.
We highly recommend this gem to everyone who’s looking for an intimate place to wow your significant other. You...
