The low score is not due to poor service or the look and feel of the establishment. Those were good and my kids enjoyed themselves (we watched Mario Bros movie).
The low score is due to the actual technology being used to show the movie. As a casual movie goer, prices have gone up in theatres, but the expectation is that that money is being put back in to increase the enjoyment of the movie experience.
Over the years, Cineplex has added rumble seats, or reclining seats (which are comfortable), kids play areas, But the one area that really needs attention has not been addressed…
The projector/screen/image quality is embarrassing for a 21st century theatre this day in age. Washed out colours, pixelated image, and on overall lack of detail in the picture.
You can tell that Cineplex is trying to go as long as they can on old hardware and it shows. My gripe here is if it costs me $150 to take my 4 member family to see a movie (with snacks), I’m Expecting to be blown away by the experience of the movie.
I can’t shake the feeling, when leaving the theatre each time, that the movie experience at home is generally better. Like many people I have both a 4k OLED tv but also a home projector.
Sure the oled has great HDR and the projector has a huge 130” screen, but I’m expecting both when going to the theatre.
I want a huge massive 8k-16 k upscaled image, in incredible HDR, where the image is clear and in vibrant accurate colour, like the directors/creators intended.
There are standards that have been around for years put out by Dolby, where internationally these theatres are seen as the leading edge and as many theatres have converted to these standards internationally and in the US, why hasn’t there been this push in Canada and why are we lagging behind the rest of the world in this regard, especially since Canadian theatre technology has been pioneered a lot in Canada for the rest of the world to enjoy (IMAX).
It’s time Cineplex make the investment to Dolby Theatres where we not only get Dolby sound but Dolby picture technology and give the people what they’re paying for.
It’s embarrassing how out dated the projectors are while still asking for top dollar at...
Read moreThis review is for corporate as directed by Luke, the supervisor. Context: I have been ordering popcorn at least on a weekly basis for take out and usually purchase 2 large bags layered butter. Have ordered from various cineplex locations. I asked Luke that it is for take out and please make sure it is filled properly. He places the bags in a precarious position as he went to get the cover bags. For the past 3 years at least, the cover bag is another empty bag but Luke had other ideas. He gave me 2 small clear plastic bags and handed them to me. Surprised I noted that usually I get cover bags and the attendant usually helps and bags it. As he was legitly ignoring me, one of the bags fell on the counter making a mess. Obviously Luke was upset as he used the same bag that had fallen and re filled the same bag. I think good customer service deserves that Luke should have taken another bag and refilled the order. He didn't. On top of that the plastic cover bags were tight to fit and he fit one. I was having a hard time and customers were lining up. Rather then helping, he walked away. As he was ear shot, I said again, you should give me 2 bags as other have always done and they pack it. He says I already helped you with one and if you want the bags I will charge you. I said this is not good customer service. He basically said if you want to complain, do so to corporate so here it is. I think perhaps corporate should have uniform guidelines and Luke definitely needs training in customer service and just to be nice. Perhaps some sensitivity training in who is actually paying his salary would help...
Read moreDecided to buy the VIP tickets which included a lounge and option to order (pay) food/drink items either to be eaten in lounge before the movie starts or inside the theater, arrived at lounge 60mins before showtime.
Numerous tv screens with local sports inside or you can sit in their outside patio for some fresh air.
Firstly, plenty of staff on hand to handle a slightly over 50% movie attendance, they were courteous and were customer oriented. Food/drink items were served within a reasonable time. Staff takes your order and delivers to you in lounge or inside the theater before the movie starts.
Staff are also on-hand inside theater to take your orders, service stops when movie starts.
Ordered a burger/fries to eat in lounge as I wasn't sure if eating food while watching a movie would have been a wise choice, maybe next time. Stella draft tap beer arrived nicely cold.
Burger meat was dry, reminded me of the typical fast food burgers you would find at McDonald's or Burger King, however they were generous with the lettuce, tomatoes, ketchup toppings which worked well with the meat/bun. Fries were hot and crispy
Individual private toilets was a nice personalized benefit
Theater seats are large leather with individual attached tray tables, spring loaded reclining backrest. Seats/floors very clean, no stickiness or musty smells.
I did order a layered butter popcorn ($2.50 extra for butter). Can't watch a movie without it as I can't duplicate the buttered popcorn at home without making a mess. Delivered before movie started while inside theater
A very different and enjoyable...
