I recently visited Demetres, and I absolutely have to recognize the incredible service I received from William. From the moment I was seated until the very end of my visit, he went above and beyond in every possible way to make my experience special. His professionalism, kindness, and genuine care for guests really stood out — it’s rare these days to encounter someone who takes so much pride in what they do.

William greeted me with a warm smile and positive attitude right away. He made me feel welcome and comfortable, and it was clear he truly enjoys his job. He took my order carefully, made helpful recommendations, and showed great attention to detail. My food and desserts came out exactly as ordered, and everything was served promptly and beautifully. He also checked in at perfect times — not too often, not too little — just enough to make sure I had everything I needed and was enjoying my meal.

What really impressed me most was how genuinely caring and thoughtful William was. He didn’t just serve food; he provided an experience. He noticed small things, like making sure I had extra napkins without me asking, refilling my water before it ran low, and asking if everything was to my liking with sincerity. He made sure every part of my visit went smoothly, and you could tell he takes personal pride in representing Demetres with excellence.

William’s attitude was consistently positive and professional, even while managing other tables. He moved efficiently but never seemed rushed, and he treated every customer around him with respect and enthusiasm. I used to frequent this dessert place quite often and was always impressed with their delicious treats. Unfortunately, my recent visit left me disappointed due to the poor service I received. While the desserts were still delightful, the subpar service overshadowed the experience.

Upon entering the establishment, I noticed the server, who appeared to be aware of my presence, but did not acknowledge me or offer any assistance. Assuming they were occupied with other customers, I patiently waited at the entrance for approximately five minutes. To my surprise, there was still no attempt to provide service until I had to call out for attention.

Finally, a dessert bartender emerged and attended to me, but the initial wait and lack of acknowledgment were disheartening. To make matters worse, when I placed my order, two out of the three items I requested were incorrect. One item was not even remotely similar to what I had ordered, which indicated a lack of attention to detail and care on the part of the staff.

Despite the disappointing service, I must emphasize that the desserts themselves were still as delicious as ever. The taste and quality remained consistent with my previous experiences, which is a testament to the culinary expertise of the establishment.

However, it is essential for the management to address the service issues promptly. While one incident may be overlooked, consistent poor service can ultimately harm the reputation of an otherwise excellent dessert place. The server's lack of attentiveness and the mistakes made with the order negatively impacted my overall experience and left me questioning whether to return in the future.

You've hit the gym, stuck to that diet, and kept things under control. Well guess what friend; you've earned the cheat day of the CENTURY. So step on over to Demetres to mess up some desserts!

Demetres is a dessert restaurant next to the movie theatre in downtown Markham. Though the space is pretty large, don't let that fool you into thinking grabbing a seat will be simplistic. This place gets pretty popular at night, so get there early. But once you do nab a seat, be prepared to enjoy your booth seating in a whimsically decorated space with pinks, greens, yellows, and a general joyous theme :)

You'll have the option of delighting your sweet tooth with waffles, crèpes, sundaes, ice cream, cakes, and cold and hot drinks. Between 2 and a half of us, we chose to split the Unbrûlévable waffle and a sundae (whose specific name I unfortunately do not remember). I often say that I'm not that much of a "dessert guy", but f*, this waffle was lit. They don't slap you in the face with unnecessary sweetness, (which is the first way to get me to turn away). Instead, they take a ripe, brûléed banana, drizzle that girl in butter caramel sauce, add a scoop of Dulce & Banana ice cream, and nestle all of that on top of the single tastiest waffle I've had in my life. Now remember; I am NOT a "dessert guy", so maybe your sweet tooth crazy friends have happened upon a better waffle, (in which case, please tell me where), but I stand by this waffle. It's not as if they add extra fruit flavour, (or crack). They just serve you a standard waffle that has just the right sweetness, and texture that reminds you why good texture in food counts! I actually ordered a plain waffle at the end of the meal, so trust that I'm not kidding.

Anyway, this place is great. For a not "dessert guy", I love that they can take no-effort-delicious items, like desserts, and elevate them even farther. When you've got the calories to spare, go...
