Pros: Some days are sponsored so the ride is free
Cons: No washroom nearby
Passed by this place so many times in the past. Always wanted to take my kids here as well. Came by on a Friday afternoon during summer break.
So apparently there are certain days where the Carousel will be sponsored by either the city or companies making everything there free of charge for the day. Luckily for us, the Markham Public Library was sponsoring the Carousel for the day. There's an online resource you can check to see if anyone will be sponsoring it for the day. Even when there is no sponsor, it's only $2 a ride which isn't bad.
The carousel itself is a mish-mash of Canadian history and culture. It's a very interesting piece if you ask me. Each seat basically can tell a story on it's own. There are seats for younger and older kids so they call can have a good time on it. There is a height requirement where parents will have to ride with their kids if they don't meet it.
The carousel is obviously outdoors so weather will always play a factor here. When it's really cold it could be a bit of an issue bringing young children here. My biggest issue was there's not an obvious washroom nearby. I guess you can just use the downtown Markham plaza next door?
All in all, a great way to spend a portion of the day with the family. Do your research ahead of time and you can save a...

This carousel is the signature piece of Downtown Markham's $30 million public art initiative and The Remington Group's tribute to our great nation, our community and sustainable development.
The Carousel's 44 colourful Canadian characters were created by Canadian-born "junk art" sculptor Patrick Amiot and beautifully painted by his wife Brigitte Laurent, with the ride's structure built by the legendary Daniel Horenberger. Some of Horenberger’s notable carousels include Disney’s King Arthur Carrousel and General Electric’s solar-powered carousel. The Pride of Canada pays tribute to some of our nation’s most celebrated wonders, iconic individuals and everyday Canadian life as envisioned by Amiot and Laurent. Each ride on is beautiful and unique. Showcasing Canada from coast to coast. The sculptural characters have been lovingly crafted from recycled and repurposed objects collected from journeys from coast to coast.

Read morePride of Canada Carousel is a literal joke. One carousel in “downtown Markham” where there is nothing else. Sure go around the carousel with ur kids and play big board games, then what? Theres nothing there, no events worth going to and a handful of just okay food places. Markham is the definition of boring and this area is right under it. Huuuuuge waste of space, everything here is poorly planned.
They have an outdoor, unsupervised ice rink in the winter, but close at 10pm…why would an unsupervised rink need to close? What is the point of that. I’ve never seen an unsupervised rink have a “closing” time bc it makes no sense. Signs say “use at your own risk” yet only between certain hours? Make is make sense. But also was told you can’t skate there at all??? Pride of Canada but only skate at some times and also not at all? Disorganized mess of management. Waste of time, space and effort.
Thanks for making Markham more boring than it...
