First time eating Hakka Chinese food. Literally tastes like regular old Chinese food, just has a lot more of stronger flavours (salt). The restaurant is kind of dark (bright enough to see, but feels kind of dark). The restaurant isn't that big. We ordered the Cantonese Mixed Chow Mein, Vegetable Fried Rice, Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls, and Fried Chicken. We also order 1 of each pop cans (Ginger Ale, Iced Tea, Crush). The way this restaurant seemed to serve the food is by giving you the appetizers first (if you ordered it), waiting till you basically finish the appetizer, and then they give you the main meals. The Fried Chicken dish came and it also had a slice of lemon in the dish. My friend find a single strand of hair on the lemon. That dish got taken back to the kitchen. And we either got a new Fried Chicken dish, or we got the same one back, but without that lemon. My friend also asked for better lemon slices, cause the lemon that we got as a replacement, looked used. The Fried Chicken was strong in the salt flavour. A bit too salty. The Chow Mein came with so much vegetables and other meats stacked on top of the noodles. The Chow Mein tasted exactly how it always tastes like (from my extensive memories of eating so much Chow Mein), just a bit more saltier. The Fried Rice was decent as well, just pretty salty. The Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls were decent. They do give you a pitcher of cold water when you get seated down. They also have us straws for our pops. They give a decent proportion of food, like stacking high, kind of like a small hill of food on the oval plates. It's just okay Chinese food. Nothing to write home about, not super good. Food was pretty much just salt and grease. The prices here are pretty decent, compared to other Chinese cuisine restaurants. Like cheaper than expected. 99% of their dishes were pretty much under $20. We paid a total of $65 before tips for the 4 dishes and 3 pops. Chinese food-- I mean Hakka Chinese food that doesn't break the bank.

Attentive staff and great Hakka food at fair prices. With inflation and all prices going up, I was surprised that the prices here were more than reasonable and the portions were generous. I am not sure about Hakka places in this area but compared to downtown Toronto and Mississauga you get a good value and most dishes here come with rice which is not common in Hakka restaurants in the other cities I mentioned. That might explain why this restaurant is so popular and it was extremely busy on Saturday when we came for dine in. There were people waiting to be seated and the take out lineup was insanely long. I absolut favourite dish is crispy ginger beef which I get at every Hakka place but in terms of flavour this place is one of the best. Even though it is not as crispy as some other places (might be due to the sauce) I still enjoyed it very much. I tried Pakora for the first time here as per recommendation and I don’t regret it. I would recommend the pakora combo if it’s your first time as well because it comes with Chicken, Shrimp and fish, so that you can try all of them to see which one you like best. I enjoyed all three of them but the shrimp was my favourite. My partner liked the chicken the most. Just be aware that they are pretty spicy. It was very busy and we waited a bit long for the food and there might have been a mix up but I don’t blame them as they tried their best attending a packed restaurant. The staff seemed stressed but were polite and attentive nonetheless. Overall good experience!

This Hakka restaurant can get really packed and busy, even on a Sunday night (when we came) Luckily we got in before the crowd as there were seats available. However, within 15 mins, people started to come in and a line was forming. So yes, you can tell that this restaurant is pretty popular, but I’m not surprised why. Their menu offers a good selection of items, and a lot of choices for vegetarians as well. The food items (even despite how busy it gets) comes fairly quickly, within 10 mins or so. The portion sizes are pretty good for the price you pay, and usually one dish is enough for 2 people. - Chili Chicken ($9.99): as mentioned, the size is fairly big, and the chili chicken only comes as the dry version (some places offer dry or with sauce), and a big bowl of rice to accompany it. The chicken was nice and soft, and there was a good amount of chili spice to it! One of my fav dishes :) - Kan Shue Green Beans ($7.50): Like the chili chicken, the dish was pretty big overall. The beans were abit overcooked as I found it dry, but other than that, the spices used were good. I recommend coming to this place for delicious Hakka food, just try to come before the lineups start haha! IG: Ayenomz

Posting A TRUE 911 Review ⛑️⛑️⛑️

After the hardworking father sadly died and left the children with a beautiful legacy one that they have unfortunately DESTROYED THAT sad to say.

I’m not surprised by their “lank of conscience-“ as they have lost their loyalty following and loyal customers apparently and have no compunctions about providing tainted food meats and shrimp 🦐 oh and do not ignore the price of the sweet and sour shrimp or the watered down version of American Chop Suey and stinkpot chicken fried rice that ended in the garbage can.

Their reputation is in the garbage bin too and after loosing valued customers and despite knowing this they couldn’t care less if you complained about it or not because they will JUST DENY IT- But seriously bad tasting food is one thing but tainted food is another…

There is a limit to greediness- !!!! IF YOU EAT HERE - Save your proof / not bill / food !!! But if you, like us you eat up all the PROOF or you won’t be able to back up your allegation - Anyway so you decide or even better if you value your life RUN AND FIND YOURSELF ANOTHER HAKKA RESTAURANT / AS THEY ARE shameless RESTAURANTEURS AND A REAL DISGRACE TO THE SMALL HAKKA COMMUNITY - AS WELL.

Took a TAKE AWAY shy of $100 and got home to find that we took away only what appeared to look like leftovers from the chefs dinner - as unbelievably each dish was shy of half a container. 🍲 As disheartening as it was to see that the dishes were picked through and that we were given only half a container of picked through food …..,but today I thank the lord for that because when we ate the food we got food poisoning from it….luckily I say see what luck that we got only half the quantities of food otherwise we would have been DOUBLY SICK-

However we DILIGENTLY called the restaurant and complained about the food and they said no problem please let us make it up to you -don’t worry about it- just bring in your receipt and I will give you a brand new meal to reimburse you for your trouble….. I kept the receipt 🧾 now I can frame it as there was NO REPLACEMENT MEAL HAH HAHAHAHA

BUT under the circumstances I truly have to thank the cook cum self appointed manager FRANCIS when I went in to take advantage of his generous offer - and to give them a second chance…, that he simply changed his tune and FRANCIS said that he’d spoken to his cook and said that it was not the their fault- AND ACCUSED US OF EATING THE DISH WHEN I SHOWED HIM A PHOTOGRAPH- Fantastic thing to tell your loyal customers after 25 years OF LOYALTY ~ a cook of the restaurant tells you that… UNBELIEVABLE

He said that he had been given standing orders by management ie Lady JENNIFER who is is deceased owner’s daughter WHO MANAGES BOTH THE MARKHAM LOCATION AND THIS LOCATION that this is the way they give their food this quality and quantity in take aways ….although what her orders are on selling tainted food I cannot say…no comment on that ….

Federick logic - After all IF WE OPT TO PAY CASH ON DELIVERY they give us a 10% discount on cash orders so what the hell - IN TURN let’s fleece the customer after all they will only pay PRIOR before they take home their food packages - So they have no idea what they’re getting inside till later - some people will complain about it but what can they do actually do, other customers will walk away and while others will just suck it up - and eat the crappy food as a habit - restaurant rule one 0 one - after all the money is now in our pockets so let them go suck eggs 🥚 lol 😂- nice as selling Franchise for her us better business let her Franchisees suck up her slack -

Except only thing when one gets bad food it’s not funny - or even acceptable to get ill - regardlessly now reviews need to be posted on social media.

So this HA HA HAAKA RESTAURANT is a JOKE NOW - and do not worry about the quantity of food as remains the question do you actually want any more food to get so ill - So we survived thanks to THE NEW MANAGEMENT RULE ~ of providing their customers with half a container of food - BEWARE OF THIS FOOD...

Firstly, I’d like to start off by saying that I’m a very big fan of Hakka, and I’ve been going to Fredericks for at least 35 years, starting with the original Fredericks in the southern part of Scarborough.

For this particular visit… My wife and I and two teenage boys went to Fredericks on a Saturday evening to eat, because we felt like having Hakka food.

The overall experience here was really really bad for multiple reasons

I will make a list, so that other readers can understand why it went Bad on many levels…

1). When we were finally seated, and I asked for tea, the server said they ran out of tea the day before, so we could not have any jasmine tea with our food. I don’t understand how a Hakka restaurant runs out of Jasmine tea, but they did.

2). Our main course came at the same time as our appetizers did, within a few minutes of each other.

3). The clear hot sauce on the table with the Thai chilies ran out, and no one replenished it for us.

3). My wife who is a vegetarian, ordered chili paneer, and they forgot to bring it. So I had to eventually go and cancel the dish halfway through our meal, and my wife just had Schezwan veggie noodles.

3). The schezwan veggie noodles we ordered were supposed to be spicy, yet they had a very little spice to it, and not much flavour to it either

4). The hot and sour soup we ordered, required salt and soy sauce, and only then it tasted half decent… Because it came without any flavour also.

5). The shrimp Pakora’s we ordered, as it turns out, they do not de-vein the shrimp that they put into the Pakoras. So basically you’re eating the digestive tract of the shrimp, which also carries its poop

6). The chilli chicken arrived cold.

7). The buk choy we ordered, was extremely soggy with whatever clear sauce they cook it in, because there was a lot of gooey sauce with the buk choy on the plate they served it on

8). The red hot sauce on the table is not very good either. It is very thin and very liquified with either water or oil, and there’s no substance to the red hot sauce, and very little taste.

To be fair, I will also say that our server was friendly, and she did give us a 10% discount, when I complained about all of the items above. But I personally don’t care about a 10% discount, I would rather have had the food be somewhat edible, especially when we went as a family on a Saturday night.

She apologized for the food, and simply said they were very busy. And I told her just because you’re busy, the cook shouldn’t forget how to cook his food, especially on a Saturday night.

As I said in the beginning, I really do love Hakka food, and have been going to Fredericks for over 35 years. But the quality of this place has gone down considerably, especially when they have a full house.

It seems as if all they’re interested in is making volumes of food, without any regard for quality.

I’ve met the owners in the past, and they used to put out a good product. Now all they care about is serving tasteless, cold food, and making money without any regard...

I haven't ordered from Frederick's since the pendemic. I generally order take out and honestly have never dined in. My old co-workers introduced me to this restaurant and at the beginning the food was pretty good. I mean, if I remember it and crave it here and there it's got to be good, right? I just never had the urge to dine in and I am sure the experience would be different. Anyway, I was in the area and really wanted chilli chicken so I talked my husband into getting take out. I really wish I didn't since my husband and my two year old threw up there entire dinner that night and had the runs. The food this time around really wasn't as I remembered. I ordered the vegetables pecorah, the chili chicken, crispy ginger beef and spring rolls. Omg, can I just say the spirng roll was so over priced it's not even funny. Had I known, I probably would have omitted it from my order. No spring roll should cost $6 especially if it's just vegetables inside. I also found it a bit under cooked. The crispy ginger beef was not crispy at all. The taste was ok but would I order again, probably not as it's not what I imaged when I read the name. The vegetable pecorah was super spicy and not what I expected. The chilli chicken was just dry and flavorless. Both the meat dishes was not good. The meat was very poor quality and everything was super oily. We also order my favorite Hakka Chow Mein and I was just so disappointed because it was oily and just not good. The dinner came with rice and I'm 100% sure it was the rice that cause my husband and my poor little one to throw up and have diarrhea half the night. Either the rice was not clean or it was old or not store properly causing bacteria to grow. I was ok but I didn't feel the best after dinner, most likely due to the oily food... I also didn't want the rice so, that's why I believe it was the rice that cause them both being sick. Would I come back and order again, most likely not. But hey, this is just my experience. I'm sure others enjoy the food at this place but I do hope they will read this review and do something so that it doesn't happen to...
