I seldom write bad reviews as I don’t want to ruin others’ businesses for just at or below par services or product quality. But this time I decided to write one to make others aware of the poor service at this place.
• If you are a party of 2 or 3, don’t bother going. First of all, the place has very few small tables for 2 to 4. Secondly, if you don’t know the receptionist or any of the managers, don’t bother going even if you plan to reserve a table for 4 or more in advance (note: the receptionist used to work for a restaurant that runs a “acquainted customers” priority seating system. You may end up waiting for an hour without getting a seat, like us. • Like the famous “龍系列” restaurants, this place runs a “acquainted customers” system. This group of customers receive priority seating and services despite not having to make any prior reservations or getting a number in the queue. • My party of two got there slightly before 11 am and got a No. 5 on the wat list. 45 minutes went by, not even one number was called. Meanwhile, two parties – one of 2 and the other of 3, were seated without (a) any number called, and (b) any reservations showing such small parties. (We waited for another 15 minutes then decided to give up and leave.) • I asked the receptionist about the long wait. Her response was “there were not very many small tables”. True. But when I confronted her with my observation that some small groups were seated without any reservations or being called, she didn’t answer but just walked away. • Their dim sum prices are about the same or slightly higher than other restaurants of similar class (e.g. 龍港,豪苑,御膳坊). And this place doesn’t have any “early bird” specials, unlike 豪苑,金庭宴,紫爵金宴). • And what about $20 for a 炒飯or $22 for a 乾炒牛河? Give me a break! 星之華 which offers excellent food quality only charges $18, with a HK style tea and no charge for Chinese tea! • I didn’t end up eating there so I am unable to compare food quality. But judging from the youtube reports, I assess that the quality is not any higher than these other reputable places. • The sizes of the dim sum are no bigger than these other restaurants, let alone the “龍系列” restaurants.
At this price, in such a small place (smaller than any of the above-mentioned restaurants, and with this service and long wait time, I definitely will not go there as there are so many other good or even...

I used to work at the restaurant that previously occupied this building before Kingsfield took possession. I do appreciate that the owner put a lot of effort and money into renovating the place but it’s unfortunate that for such a nice looking restaurant the service is extremely poor.
My friend who speaks Chinese put in a 6:30pm reservation 5 days ahead of time. We came in at 6:25 standing for a few mins by the front desk and no one came to greet us. An older family came in behind us, IMMEDIATELY a server came to the desk, talked to the family and seated them without acknowledging us despite standing in front of them.
When a server finally helped us they scanned a list of reservations, looked around at the tables and confusingly said the wait would be “a few minutes”. We waited for exactly 30 minutes, during which a few servers kept coming by telling us “soon” or “few more minutes”. When we asked what happened to our reservation they replied with “I don’t know who took it so I don’t know what happened”. If they had told us the wait was going to be more than 15 mins, we wouldn’t have waited.
We ordered 3 dishes and 3 bowls of steamed rice. They brought each dish 1 at a time and each time we reminded them about the rice. They finally brought the rice after asking for a 4th time and by then the main dishes were cold since we were waiting for the rice to eat it all together.
The food was great, quite average to be honest, though the sweet and sour pork dish was mostly pineapples and peppers - not a lot of meat. They offer a 10% cash discount but at this price point there are a lot of better Chinese restaurants where the service is top notch. The location is so convenient, the restaurant is nicely decorated, but the service is just horrible unless you fluently speak Chinese. My friend speaks very little Cantonese and had a hard time communicating with everyone. It seems they prioritize full Chinese customers in general and for that reason I don’t recommend coming here if you’re not (you’ll have a better time at Congee Queen where they cater and are welcoming to all races). And yes, I’ve been to several authentic / fine dining Chinese restaurants and never had...
Read moreIt was our first time having dim sum lunch last Thursday, the place was recommended to us for its dim sum. Dim Sum was great (lots of MSG) but the SERVICE was HORRIBLE due to this server (manager?) named Jenny! My sister looked at the dinner menu and wanted to return in the evening to have dinner, we asked Jenny if we should make a reservation, without a welcoming tone or smile, she said "of course!" and we did. Then I asked her if they offer VIP cards that we can purchase; she snapped back saying "we don't have VIP card but everyone gets 10% discount by paying cash", that was a degrading answer because I was not looking at any discount. My friend paid the bill and she accidentally placed her clean napkin on the payment tray while we chatted, Jenny came over and pointed at the payment tray asking "is this ready?" so my friend said "oh yes" and took the napkin away, Jenny mumbled "no idea why you put a napkin on it" while she walked away. Finally we left and she was right next to us picking up the few plates and cups, she did not say thank you and see you tonight, nothing! Honestly if we are not returning that night for dinner or ever, I would have told my friend not to leave any tip for this place. I am a restaurateur in Durham Region so I tip well, at least 20% nowadays. My friend still left a 15% tip but Jenny's horrible attitude started before she took our payment but I can assure you she would be the same even if we leave a 25% or more tip. She simply hates her job! Or she had a bad day and took it out on the customers? The little Chinese male server (manager?) was not any better, we asked for take-out boxes and the bill and he did not even acknowledge, he brought the boxes so that means he heard us, just rude. In the end, later that day we decided to cancel our dinner reservation because we would not want to be served by these people, they made the atmosphere "toxic", I would not even dine there even when the food is good. To the owner, as I said I am a restaurateur myself so I know how difficult it is to hire people nowadays in the industry; you are pure lucky if you are making good profit even with such...
