This Swiss Chalet establishment is located in the same building as it's fast food compatriot "Harvey's". Located in a convenient location on the border or Markham and Richmond Hill, and very close to the Major Mackenzie exit off the Ontario 404 Freeway, it is a nice neighborhood to eat in.
Upon entry into the restaurant, we were welcomed by what seemed like the only waitress in the entire restaurant on duty at the time. Since it was quite empty, it wasn't much of an issue, but I'd imagine she would have her work cut out for her if there were more customers (keep this note in mind for later).
We were handed menus and ordered the chicken meals with some appetizers like the spring roll (Chicken) and the perogies, along with some drinks.
Service time was average and polite, whilst the drinks, chicken spring roll, and perogies all tasted excellent. I really enjoyed the sauces, especially the perogie sauce.
Then came the chicken meals, with fries and the signature Swiss Chalet gravy/sauce. The gravy comes with a secret blend of flavors that I have no idea what is in them, although I can definitely taste the distinct flavor of cinnamon, or at least it tastes like something similar to cinnamon. At first, I dind't really like the gravy but the more you eat it, the more it grows on you until I was finally content with it.
The fries were plentiful and had a nice taste to them. Rustic yet simple, very good for a restaurant fry and definitely more "natural" than some fast food counterparts, which is to be expected from a restaurant.
We ordered white meated chicken and overall the taste was fine, I was slightly disappointed that it was quite dry in many places, and the chicken wing portion was slightly overcooked, making for a slightly tougher piece of meat, although the flavour and crispiness of the chicken wings were nice indeed.
Overall, I'd say everything other than the main piece of chicken far exceeded expectations, whilst the meat of the chicken contained many parts which were on the dry side, although the gravy helped to moisten the meat and add some additional flavor.
I'd still recommend coming here, and the service, atmosphere, and overall experience is still enjoyable.
On a side note, remember how I said it wasn't busy? Well, a large group of students entered the restaurant later on and so it made the single waitress work a lot more, and so it was much more busy. Still manageable work, but I would definetely recommend that there be at least 2 servers working a shift, even if it's the evening shift, which, if you think about it, is probably a busy time.
4/5 stars, a decent rating if you...

I have eaten at this Harvey's/Swiss Chalet location many times. I usually visit when I'm at the Canadian Tire located in this plaza. I have had pretty much everything on the menu at Swiss Chalet over the years and I can say one thing, they are always consistent. On this trip however I had one goal in mind, to try the new 'Chalet-Style Crispy Chicken Sandwich'. I saw a poster for it when I was getting food at the Harveys at the same location. I have been all over Markham this year trying Chicken Sandwiches from the usual Fast Food Chains like KFC, Popeyes, Church's Chicken, Krispy's Kajun Chicken etc. So I grabbed the kids and a friend and went for a meal on the patio. The service was pretty good on the patio as there were always two serviers coming and going. The kids food and the other items came out pretty fast. My Chicken Sandwich was delightful. The Chicken Patty was huge, juicy and tender, and although twice as much as the Harvey's version in terms of price, you will be able to see why. The sandwich is larger than the Harvey's version and is topped with a 'secret'coleslaw and a 'tangy' Chalet Mayo. It was worth the premium price as anytime you eat at Swiss Chalet the prices are always higher than the usual fast food restuarants. The kids enjoyed thier kids meal and I really enjoyed the 'Chalet-style Crispy Chicken Sandwich' and would have it again. If you're thinking about eating at Swiss Chalet or ordering take-out give this sandwich a try.
The only issue I had during this visit was that for some reason when I scanned my Scene Points cards I realized a few days later that the points weren't added for this visit. I tried calling and using the chat feature for Scene but to no avail. The response from the Chat-Bot takes forever if it answers at all, and no one answers the phone if if you call customer service, This is my opinion is terrible customer service. Our table had two adults and three children, so Iost a quite a few points. After several atempts to reach Scene customer service to no avail, I just gave up...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy son and I were driving around, my son said he was getting hungry and decided we wanted Swiss Chalet for late lunch early dinner. So went to the nearest one to where we were which was at 764 Markland st off Major Mackenzie &. 404 Drive thru. We ordered 2 quarter chicken dark with the New Mac & Cheese side instead of fries just to try it. We got our meals and it looked like it was thrown together instead of neatly placed in the box. Mac & Cheese looked like it was Mircowaved not baked! Chicken was reddish/pink near the bone looked like it was not fully cooked. The worst thing was it was both meals and when I went back to drive thru to show them, the girl at the window called for a supervisor who said the chicken was cooked and Mac & cheese was supposed to come like. Then I asked but I thought the Mac& cheese were baked there was no browning of the cheese at all. Then another lady with blonde hair and glasses came and said this is how it is supposed to look we had been making this for Two months now. Please see photo attached does the Mac& cheese look baked to you. I also thought that didnāt this Mac& cheese just come on as a new item on menu. How could they have been making it for 2 months already. I know they had a kids Mac & cheese on menu as my son gets it from time to time but it is not baked it looked more like what we had gotten. Very disappointed with this Swiss Chalet will not be going back due to the rudeness of the lady with blonde hair...
