I've looked forward to trying this local sushi restaurant for quite some time. It's tucked away in a neighborhood plaza, and not visible from the main street. However, I'm having doubts that I'd return after tonight's visit

Upon my arrival at the restaurant, I waited patiently inside the door to be greeted & seated. I looked around the restaurant and there was an empty table, with no one else waiting. It took about 5 mins for someone (who was later described as the "manager") to come and ask if we had a reservation (which we didn't). She mentioned it would be an approximately 10 minute wait, and that we needed to wait outside the restaurant (and sheet gestured her arm out the window). As we waited outside, a kind lady asked us if we were waiting for a table, and then why we were waiting outside. She then insisted that we wait in the waiting area for our table.

Upon being seated, the manager came over and asked "What do you want to drink" as if we were disrupting something.

As we continued with our meal, the male server at the restaurant was very kind to us, and would come and ask how everything was going. He showed exemplary customer service, despite his managers poor attitude.

As we were eating, another couple came into the restaurant, and was attended to by the manager. They were also asked to wait a couple of minutes, but not asked to wait outside (my table was right beside the door, so could witness and hear everything quite clearly). So this begs the question, why was I being singled out, and receiving such poor attitude/customer service from the manager?

To the end of our meal, this manager never once came over to apologize, or explain herself. I guess asking guests to wait outside in the cold is acceptable to her. A simple apology for potential miscommunication could've saved...

Decent sushi spot tucked away in a small open concept plaza, no evident signage outside for the restaurant at all (we almost didn’t think it was in the plaza .. thank god for google maps), maybe some would be nice but I understand if people have no difficulty finding it so why bother

Ordered the: salmon lovers (great price), shrimp tempura (crazy fresh), and the hot sun kissed roll -

miso soup was perfect , & LOL at the salad.. what’s up with the ONE of each perfectly cut toppings? It seemed so rationed I wanted to give it back to themmm.. (I genuinely laughed)

Everything was good but the fish that lacked the freshness and butteryness it needed to make fish varieties distinguishable beside their texture… basically everything tasted the same and the sunkissed rolls has ALL the fish ontop of it (I’ve had better quality fish) …also the tips of the salmon were darker than the rest, possible due to the ends not being wrapped away properly if that makes sense.

Also completely preference but I like my salmon rolls maki style with the seaweed in the outside

Unfortunately the sun kissed roll stuck to the bottom of the take-away container [BTW 3 different containers were used (which I don’t understand), I think all could have gone in the same transparent container except the hot tempura! ]- had to use our hands to take pieces out which essentially broke the roll, the soya sauce was SO salty .. my lips puckered and the wasabi wasn’t wasabi enough for me/ tasted like the horseradish mixed stuff you get from metro or the grocery store which diminished the meal for me ; there’s a lot going just going on in this roll and I wasn’t tasting much when it came to the entire roll but avocado.

Big menu, will probably be back.....

I usually don’t go out of my way to post a negative review on a restaurant but I have to this time because an experience is not only the quality of food but also includes giving good “customer service” as well.

The sushi is good here but even more delicious before they switched to a new owner. I ordered take-out ($70.15) for my family tonight. I think I may have taken more than 5 secs to choose my bento box combo (what I wanted for combination B) as I was distracted with my child. But I was treated with a harsh and feisty attitude “ma’am just choose from the options”. So that’s fine as I realize I may be holding up the phone for a little longer than 5 seconds.

When I went to pick up my order, I was also treated with unappreciative customer service. My order bag was left on the front counter and the server (same guy who picked up my phone order) did not advise me that it was my order. How am I supposed to know it was my order??? Then he said “here’s your order” in a very harsh tone. When I said to him, you don’t have to be so rude you know. He kept silent and didn’t dare turn around to look at me.

I don’t know what to say about this service in a time like this when we are supposed to be supporting each other. I’m offended and will never return there again fortunately.

There are many other Japanese restaurants in Markham and we did go out of our way to drive an extra 10 mins just to support your business because it brings back memories for us. We may not be your weekly regulars but we’ve been visiting your restaurant every time when we’re in Markham and think of eating sushi. Not anymore as I have to find another location with happy...

A Cozy Little Spot for Sushi!! One Saturday afternoon I got the food crew together to go out for some Sushi. We were at the East end of Markham and decided on an old favourite. Being a former resident of the Greensboro area, I hadn't been to Markham Sushi in a couple of years so I wanted to see how they were doing. Markham Sushi is neatly tucked away in the plaza on the northeast corner of Highway 7 and Wootenway, right behind the Halibut House. It's a cozy family-run joint that's been around for a few years. They have always been creative in their presentation of the food, and it's known locally for its 'Create Your Own Bento Box' which allows you to pick your protein and your side. The Bento box comes with a Miso Soup, a side salad, rice and tamagoyaki. I chose the Chicken Karaage and a shrimp roll for my Bento. We ordered the juicy and tender beef Galbi and mixed tempura to start. The kids had the Mango shrimp roll and another shrimp roll. The restaurant is not a big place and fills up fast, we ere there on a Saturday, and luckily got seated in a booth within 10 minutes. The service was great and they were really great with my kids as well. The food was fresh and the sushi was a work of art, my chicken karaage was surprisingly crisp with tender chicken inside and wasn't greasy at all. I washed down my bento with an ice-cold Kirin Ichiban, a perfect match for my meal. Markham Sushi is still the well run establishment that I've known for years, the folks that run it are passionate about their food and treat their guest like family.
