I’m not one to leave reviews, but had to share my thoughts about Turcottes. Best poutine i’ve ever had no word of a lie, there must be 1 pound of cheese curds on each order. I don’t know how they can even sell the poutines for the price they do with that amount of cheese. The fries are so damn crispy on the outside but then soft and pillowy inside. I don’t understand how they do this it must be magic. The gravy is so flavourful and perfect too.
Now the service. the couple running the stand are hard working people. They are busting their chops every time i’m there. There is only 2 of them working and they go hard. Not to mention, this weekend at the festival was BUSY, but these guys don’t stress. I was there 3 times in matter of 2 days, two of the times busy, but the gal working the front is so bloody pleasant. so so nice and sweet every time i’ve been.
the location is prime, access from the main street or plenty of parking in the back. they have beautiful string lights set up on their patio with at least 10 tables available if you want to stay and eat. they also have great tunes playing at all times!!!
cant recommend this place enough, great food...

During our visit to Mattawa, the locals were incredibly friendly and immediately recommended Turcotte’s Chipstand for the best fries in town, and they were right!
We had the best French fries crispy, fresh, and served in generous portions at great seasonal prices. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. The setup is clean, lively, and full of charm.
Why it’s so special: This iconic chip stand was founded in 1944 by the Turcotte family and has been passed down through three generations. It’s considered a beloved community institution, and it's part of town"s charater.
I highly recommend stopping here, We visited the second time in a week, and we loved their poutine and French fries. It was quite busy this time, but the service was...
Read moreThis summer my car broke down on my camping trip to Algonquin, and I had to stay overnight in Mattawa, waiting for the repairs. I didn't mind because the town is very charming and fun to explore. This chip stand was one of the big highlights. All too often you go to a restaurant and pay a lot for food that's average at best. It almost becomes a reflex to be disappointed with restaurant food. But not so with this place. The stand has been there for over 75 years, and they are masters of their craft. It serves the best poutine you will ever eat at a low price. I've tried poutine in Montreal, and this was better. Eating this poutine from a cardboard box while looking out at the Ottawa river (the stand is only a short walking distance from a lookout point) is better than any fine...
