I’ve been to a lot of delis, but Greens & Beans Deli Inc. in New Westminster is hands-down one of the best I’ve ever experienced—worthy of every single one of these 5 stars! From the moment I walked into their cozy spot at 143 E Columbia St, I was hit with a warm, neighborhood vibe that made me feel right at home. The staff greeted me with genuine smiles, treating me like a regular even though it was my first visit. It’s no surprise they’ve been a community staple for over 30 years—this place radiates heart and soul.
What really blew me away was the food. I’m on a mission to eat healthier, and Greens & Beans delivered exactly what I needed. Their menu is packed with fresh, wholesome options that cater to all kinds of tastes. I started with their homemade chicken soup—one of the six soups they had that day—and it was pure comfort in a bowl. The broth was rich yet light, loaded with fresh veggies, and I could tell it was made with care. It felt like the perfect remedy to soothe my stressed-out system. Paired it with their “Stan’s Damn” sandwich, and wow—fresh, unprocessed meat, crisp veggies, and perfectly toasted bread. Every bite was a reminder of what real, quality food should taste like.
I also loved how they prioritize health without sacrificing flavor. They source local, antibiotic-free meats from Farmer’s and Cooks, and you can taste the difference—no hormones, no artificial junk, just pure goodness. Their salads, like the Roasted Beet & Kale, are a lung-health dream—packed with antioxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients that I’ve been craving. I even grabbed a few pre-packed items to take home, and they were just as fresh and delicious the next day.
The little details make this place magical. The model train delivering sandwiches to tables? Absolute genius—my inner kid was grinning ear to ear. It’s a nod to their history, too, tied to a 2013 fundraiser for Lac-Mégantic, which shows how much they care about community. Speaking of community, they donate all tips to local charities 11 months out of the year—how incredible is that? It’s rare to find a business that’s this connected to its roots.
The atmosphere is laid-back and lovely, with sarcastic, fun staff who clearly love what they do. Prices are beyond reasonable for the quality—my soup and sandwich combo was under $15, and I left feeling full and satisfied without any heaviness.
Greens & Beans Deli Inc. isn’t just a deli—it’s an experience. Whether you’re a local in Sapperton or just passing by near Royal Columbian Hospital, do yourself a favor and stop in. You’ll leave with a full stomach, a happy heart, and maybe even a new favorite spot. I know I’ll be back soon—thank you, Greens & Beans, for reminding me what good food and good people...
Read moreI have been a New West (and New West Adjacent) resident for many, many years and can't believe I have not had the opportunity to try this little restaurant before now.
I was greeted warmly when I entered even though Jaymes behind the counter was having a very interesting conversation with another customer about the different types of clam chowder in the world (he has strong, hilarious opinions). He gave me a few moments with the menu and was there when I was ready to order. I chose the Savanah wrap (chicken salad, avo, bacon, lettuce... yum!) and the wicked Thai soup. The wrap was awesome and even declared so by Jaymes when he proudly presented it saying, "Look at that wrap! It's amazing!" He had me laughing and smiling and believe me, I needed a moment to laugh and smile. The food was fresh and delicious even though it was late in the day (2:00 PM). But truly, thanks to Jaymes for that moment to laugh. It was so nice to see someone enjoying their job as service people are largely over worked and under staffed in this day and age. If he is, he didn't show it and was a little glimmer in a dark day.
I will definitely be back and strongly recommend to others needing a good lunch at a...
Read moreI wouldn't recommend Greens and Beans for Celiac's, or those with dietary requirements. I went in for a sandwich (after reading that they carry gluten free bread on their menu.) Unfortunately they didn't have any gluten free bread, but offered to make my veggie sandwich as a lettuce wrap. I asked the person at the till if any of the soup was gluten free and they said yes, I just need to confirm which ones. I ordered the soup and lettuce wrap and my mom ordered her meal, and paid. I asked a few minutes later which soup would be gluten free. The owner told me that she would have to look it up in a book, and didn't have time for that. I was a bit stunned and took my lettuce wrap outside to eat. As I was eating the owner came outside and said I think this soup is gluten free. I declined as they didn't seem very certain, and didn't want to take the risk to my health. The interaction felt very dismissive. I understand it's an extra step to look into ingredients, but it's for my health. I'm not trying to be difficult, I have an...
