Let's start off with some Positivity, The waiter was gem helpful, kind, and courteous. Food I always look at the online menus before I go. I obviously looked at all old menu they had up of the RKitchen burger which is what I had in mind.. Disappointment when they didn't have that. They only had Wagu burgers now some people enjoy 4 tsp of fat dripping onto their plate but I do not. I did ask if it was super fatty like Wagu is usually depicted for, and they were honest they never tried it themselves which is great. Garlic Mustard Aoili. didnt taste garlic nor mustard it was like just another fat content like mayonnaise flavor was very underwhelming and the smoked havarti didnt taste anything like smoked havarti (my favorite). Friend ordered the wagu burger portobello mushrooms, it accidentally came to me as it looks exactly the same as the wagu burger I ordered. They need to specify it is a portobello mushroom top which by the way when accidentally bitten into has a slug texture but it ends up not being able to be bitten off of because it is not crisp enough. My son got the steak sandwich he says it is bigger than the silver buckles but they have a great price point.. He orderer medium rare and it came out medium but he liked it either way just a bit tough. Deserts again My was perfect what a unique presentation of cigar and ash with a shot of kahlau... My friends cheese cake (plain) doesn't say options and when they say it is black cherry awesome.. comes out it is a thin sauce on the bottom cheese cake put on top with a small macaroon. come on for the price point put some real fruit ontop of the cheese cake.. We went for the buffet and that is what brought the RKitchen to the front of our minds to try a burger. Sorry that did not capture us and you need to supply wet naps...
Read moreWent out with a party of 6 for a birthday dinner. The birthday person had a gift certificate for the Tomahawk Steak which he wanted to use. (Last time he tried to use it they said it Tomahawk was not available)
The service began alright, but became less attentive as the meal progressed. Two people shared the Tomahawk steak dinner. Two of us each had the 10oz ribeye steak, Another had the spaghetti and meatballs, and the other meal was the seafood platter.
All steaks were ordered medium rare, with only the Tomahawk even coming close. The other two ribeyes were in the “well done” range, charred and had no pink to them at all. The couple that had the Tomahawk said it was bland and had better $5 steaks in other restaurants.
The seafood platter with shrimp, salmon and lobster was also very dry and butter was not received for use with the lobster.
The spaghetti sauce was almost non existent and the meatballs were also dry and tasteless. Did not even finish 1 of the 2 meatballs as there was a lack of sauce and very dry.
The chef’s vegetable amounted to 1/2 a small carrot cut lengthwise and a couple sprigs of broccolini on the plates. The only thing that looked good was the initial presentation, and then it was tasteless and downhill from there. The server seemed to disappear and we waited several minutes to request the bills and a take out box ( to take home the uneaten spaghetti & meatballs, guess they will put sauce and give the meatballs some taste at home). Finally after 3 trips we received the takeout box and bills. To my surprise the one Ceasar cocktail was $10.50!
Overall summary…… mediocre service, poor food preparation, not good value for the money compared to other steak houses in Medicine Hat, and will not...
Read moreRedwood Steakhouse is touted as one of the finest in Medicine Hat. Our experience was less than stellar and ruined our 10 year anniversary dinner. We ordered the Tomahawk steak for two. It was professionally delivered, carved and sliced at our table. The steak looked lovely and delicious, however it turned out to be slightly over done which was ok because of the searing hot cast iron pan it was served in. The big trouble came when most of the steak was extremely tough and inedible. The server wanted to fix it but was told that the kitchen would not make another tomahawk steak because it was a new batch and they wanted to consult with the supplier. They offered to make us a different cut so my wife ordered the tenderloin and I ordered the ribeye. When the steaks arrived they looked nice and dressed. The tenderloin turned out to be WAY over done. It was hard dry and cooked solid right through. For a second try, I don't believe this to be an accident. My ribeye was smaller than advertised but properly cooked. I shared this with my wife as she couldn't eat hers. No offer was made to replace the tenderloin. The service was minimal as the server was embarrassed and tried to validate the mistakes with excuses from bad supply to training new staff. She asked us on the way out not to base this experience on the ability of the restaurant.
Our baked brie and Caesar salad were nicely made and delicious. We were charged $117 dollars for the experience which included the credit for the Tomahawk and the tenderloin. The desert was also...
