We visited this 1809 restaurant after hearing great things, but sadly our experience was anything but. For the price, the service was extremely poor and the staff were surprisingly rude and dismissive.
We were seated at 8:00 PM and didn’t receive our charcuterie board until around 9:00 PM — a full hour later. Meanwhile, the table behind us (a party of four who arrived after us) received their full meals well before we even got our appetizer. When the charcuterie board finally came, it was incredibly underwhelming: $18 for a few Ritz crackers and barely any meat.
We decided to leave before our main course even arrived — after waiting over an hour with no updates or check-ins from our server. When we brought our concerns to the staff, we were essentially told that we hadn’t been waiting that long, and the delay was blamed on a large party of 30+ people. They said “Our kitchen can only produce so much at a time”. While we understand that big groups can slow things down, it doesn’t explain why multiple tables who arrived after us were served first. Further, staff did not convey a delay.
Worse, when we calmly but sternly voiced our frustrations to our server, a bartender (or perhaps the manager) with brown hair and glasses accused us of yelling and threatened to kick us out — even though we never raised our voices. We were simply trying to express that we felt ignored and mistreated. We had 3 different staff trying to argue with us and only one of them (a blonde woman) seemed to remain calm and understanding. We were simply trying to bring a complaint to our server and other staff jumped in and took an offensive and hostile stance immediately.
I didn’t want to write a negative review, but the way we were treated was unacceptable. We had been looking forward to a great night out, and instead left hungry, insulted, and very disappointed.
We will not be coming back for another visit to this restaurant or the Rodd Miramichi Hotel that owns this establishment. The hotel was lovely but unfortunately the restaurant staff took a bad situation and instead of handling it tactfully they were aggressive and not willing to listen to any complaints, even if they...
Read moreUpdate: Lived in town for a little over 7 months now as of writing this July 2023, been here lots and the quality is always top notch. Sad that inflation made them take the coffee out of the morning specials, but even at an extra $3 for my meal it's still a decent price.
Phenomenal food, very nice fancy restaurant feel with excellent service. My steak with garlic mashed was perfectly medium as requested, and my side order of shrimp, scallops and mushrooms were extremely well done to the point my only complaint is the portion was way too small for $10 for shrimp, and another $10 for scallops... But the $5 mushroom add-on was plenty.
The seafood chowder was intensely good, I'll likely order the big bowl next time because I'd need nothing else. The starter nachos were a little light on cheese and toppings but similarly perfect in that they were well done but not burnt so the tortilla chips turned golden brown and the flavour was amazing.
My girlfriend had the fish and chips which was also perfect, with extra crunchy fries bursting with flavour.
I hope to be back as often as possible to try absolutely everything they have to offer here, I know it'll be great every time! Shout out to Tracy our server, and the kitchen staff, for a job well done 👍
Edit: went back the next morning for breakfast and had a similarly perfect meal. Best home fries in town hands down! Fanciest eggs Benedict too but the hollandaise was a tad thin, but was otherwise delicious. The server was nice enough to inform me the "porridge" is just prepackaged stuff so I opted for the bagel and cream cheese which came out toasted to perfection so much so the sesame seeds had caramelized to that super satisfying point.
Another shout out to our server, Kierrah, and the kitchen staff for a...
Read more1809 restaurant is probably the most upscale restaurant you can find in Miramichi so of course someone would expect to have a fine dinner and great service. My wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary along with our son and we were extremely disapointed.
First, we waited about 15 minutes for a hostess to show up at the front. When we were finally seated service was mediocre. We all ordered steak to be cooked medium-well, when the food arrived nearly 45 minutes after ordering 2 of the steak were overcooked (charcoaled) and was very undercooked, The mashed potatoes seemed to come from a box and veggies were basically heated up but not cooked. The waitress was informed of the situation yet didn't bring much attention to it. I would have expected they would offer to do the plates over or offer some type of compensation for the meal and the overall evening, but not here.
I paid the bill in full then asked to speak to the manager. She informed me that since the bill was paid at this point she could not change anything but had she known prior she could have done something. Funny how the server didn't mention a customer's disatisfaction for 3 meals. The manager then went on to say that she will take my name and number and give it to the hotel manager (since the restaurant is part of the Rodd chain of hotels and resorts) she indicated that he would call me the next day. This is now 4 days later and I still haven't heard from the hotel manager (Jim).
For a place that is regarded as upscale in a small town, I would think that they would pride themselves of that. I do not recommend this restaurant if you're expecting a nice evening out...you can get better service...
