Edit: Unfortunately, the quality of this restaurant has gone down since writing my initial review.
When phase 3 came out with the re-opening of dine-ins, we were more than excited to finally enjoy the atmosphere of the restaurant itself.
In saying so, what we experienced that day, in terms of both food quality and cutlery, was as a disaster at best.
To start off, the restaurant has many beautiful diner plate sets for inside eating, yet they chose to serve our food on Styrofoam plates with plastic forks. The plate itself, being quite flimsy, held less food than their actual take out boxes. So there goes their portion.
Secondly, with an influx in customers came an increase in price. I, for one, tend to let this slide as long as their quality matches the price. Unfortunately, that quality went down as well.
The qabili rice I came to love, and paid extra for, became nothing more than a spoonful of oil.
Suffice to say I won't be visiting here anymore.
The old review:
Ever since Chopan Grill closed, I've been looking for an Afghan restaurant to match their quality, and I think I finally just did.
Today was my first time eating there and it was amazing to say the least. I ordered chicken kofta skewers with kabuli rice and everything about it was to die for.
The chicken was soft and juicy, perfectly marinated. The spices were just right. Even the kabuli rice had it's own unique blend of spice that I've never tasted in the traditional dish before, and I've had plenty of that dish from several different locations.
The white sauce was amazing, and so is the red, I only wish I had ordered extras of them both. The bread was flaky and soft to the touch.
I also ordered a shawarma wrap just to try it, and it was so much more than I expected.
Even the customer service was great, as the family who runs it are very kind.
All in all, amazing restaurant. Total definiton of a hidden gem. I'll be choosing this beautiful place for my weekly dinner out from now on!
Thank you for your food and service I'll be recommending you to my friends...
Read moreI had a terrible experience at this Restaurant. First off, the service was awful. I wanted to exchange my drink after starting my meal, but the server (a guy with a bun) rudely told me to get back in line over a 50-cent difference. Seriously?
Then, while eating, I saw a big sign on the wall saying "hello" in different languages, including Hebrew which drew my attention. With everything going on in Gaza and Palestinians being killed every day, this was really insensitive. This place is in a plaza predominately frequented by Arabs/Muslims, so they should think about how their customers feel. If I had seen that sign before ordering, I would have walked out.
When I tried to talk to someone about it, neither the owner nor the manager was around. The cashier just bluntly smiled at me when I explained why I was upset, which made it worse.
With everything happening in Palestine right now, businesses need to be more considerate of their customers' feelings. Seeing that sign ruined my meal, and I couldn't even finish eating. This restaurant needs to be more aware of how their choices affect people. I won't be coming back, and I wouldn't recommend...
Read moreBefore I came here, I heard a lot of good things about this place from social media as well as reviews on Google and Yelp. When I saw that they had T-Bone steak, I knew I had to come here.
The steak did not disappoint. It was flavourful and juicy. It also had this slightly spicy sauce on it, that was delicious. I used the bread it came with to mop it all up. Service is largely informal, but they get you to food in a somewhat reasonable amount of time. They don't ask you how well you'd like the steak cooked, which is a bummer. The steak was cooked well done. Also I wish they would give me a bigger steak instead of all the carbs (aforementioned and a choice of rice or fries). That being said, both the fries and rice (from my wife's plate) were very tasty and well-seasoned.
The interior isn't the nicest - with dirty plates lined up along the wall of the entrance from recent customers and old walls. However, they do have an elevated area for prayer. They also have a nice outdoor seating area.
Overall, I would come back here for the steak and to try some of their other menu items like the lamb chops which...
