Visited with my SIL and family for her birthday. Our reservation was for 6pm so we got there and was able to take in the ambiance before it got full.
Our waiter was very friendly, answered our questions and very witty overall.
We started off with the calamari which was very good 👍🏾 Calamari is usually hit and miss with most places over cooking/frying them. These were light and and perfectly golden with a nice balance of crunch and chewy texture inside which wasn't rubbery.
I was torn between the lamb shank and seafood risotto for my main and the waiter suggested the lamb shank.
I'm very happy I went along with his suggestion as I saw the risotto and was immediately not impressed. I was offered a sample from my SIL and it was not good. Risotto should be creamy and dreamy melt in your mouth. This was not it. The consistency was soupy and the rice not fully cooked. Flavourwise it packed a seafood flair but given the watery texture it threw the dish off. The greater disappointment was the cheese offered. Powder parm (similar to the one in the bottle). I think everyone was expecting grated in a spin grater. But alas it is what it is. The price point for this dish was way too high consistency the serving size.
MIL had a dish with linguine, shrimp, scallops, clams. She said it tasted ok but lacked flavour. She asked for extra black pepper but still insisted it needed something more. I was offered a taste and agreed. It needed perhaps a touch of salt or maybe a bit more parmesan to enhance the other flavours.
My lamb shank was EXCELLENT. The meat was succulent and so tender it absolutely fell off the bone. The gravy was impeccable 👌🏾 very rich with a deep depth of flavour that could rivals grandma's cooking. The mashed potato was also perfectly creamy, roasted carrots, pearl onions cooked to perfect 👌🏾 and black olives 🫒 (I detest olives) but in this meal it balanced itself out right alongside the other flavours.
The price point on this meal was spot on. The portion size was generous and I was satiated after my meal.
The table ordered a chocolate charcuterie board to share. Chocolate is not my favourite so for me it wasn't as enjoyable. The presentation was however very stunning.
The ambiance in the restaurant was good, very relaxing. The AC was the perfect tempo against the heat outside and the staff worked in symmetry with each other.
Would I revisit? Yes but I would stick to the lambshank as my main. The other dishes didn't live up to the cost.
My meal with a pop/split on appetizer and dessert and with tip...
Read more4 stars, but it's complicated. Reserved for my husband's 40th bday for a table of 13 people. On a positive note first, the food here is great! Tried the stuffed olives, the grilled calamari and the burrata to start, all perfection! Husband had the spaghetti with lobster and i had the gnocchi, only complaint here was the gnocchi sauce was a little gritty. Mushroom pasta and boar agnolotti both delicious also and calabrese pizza was great though crust a little too dark to bother eating. Either way, the food is totally worth the trip!! Can't say the same for the service though on this particular occasion. Right off the bat hostess acknowledged we need a high chair, but then no one came so we searched one out on our own. 30 minutes after everyone arrived finally someone came for a drink order, and though we were ready to order, delayed that for another 30 mins. When asked to describe the tuna dish (hubby was on the fence) the waitress told us it comes with what's written on the menu... (seriously?). We were all starving and waiting to order drinks again by the time someone showed, luckily with our food which didn't take long to arrive. Needless to say the toddler did not fair well in this length of time waiting to eat. (Thank goodness we brought her snacks...) Again, mains arrived in good time for our numbers, unfortunately my brother and his date had asked 3 different wait staff for new drinks including a manager before they were served well into the main course. I would understand if the restaurant was packed, but even the server acknowledged how high cancellations were due to pandemic I'm sure. I just feel like if you're going to tack on 20% grat, which i have no problem with, don't phone in the service bc you have "nothing to lose". And even though i'll never feed into all the complaints at the table, ( bc i don't want the mood to be total disdain) i must say I was disappointed having been in the industry for 18 years. I fetched our dessert menu's myself upon my guests request and we asked for bills before even ordering so we could get the little one home a.s.a.p. Upon leaving not a single staff greeted us which is crazy considering not a single person was busy with guests. Lots to learn here about hospitality, too bad bc this place has serious food, or maybe thats what they rely on for...
Read moreI never post reviews for restaurants but this restaurant was something else. This restaurant literally started my journey of reviewing restaurants as I cannot stand by and watch these restaurants operate the way they do with zero accountability. This is my own personal experience, yours might differ entirely.
I’ve been to this restaurant before, their food is great but their service was absolutely horrendous this time around. My server came by with glasses but with no water for over 15 minutes. We had to call over a DIFFERENT server just for them to take our order. My girlfriend and I got our appetizers quite quickly but having waited OVER AN HOUR for our main dish and still, after no server running the dishes over to us, I got up to the host just to get their attention as we haven’t seen our server since he handed us the glasses with no water in the beginning. Absolutely crazy how we were not attended for when our area wasn’t even half-full capacity and people that came AFTER us were getting their food. How can you possibly enforce a 90 minute maximum seating rule when your server literally leaves the table unattended and not even get your main dish after an hour? Only after I spoke to the host after an hour, the food arrived, with no cutlery or plates as they were taken away after our appetizers. I’ve never been so baffled at a restaurant in my life and I’ve worked at SEVERAL server jobs before myself. I literally didn’t see our main server after he served us our water, the least he could’ve done was let us know he was leaving. We had reservations at 8:00 only to get our main dishes with no cutlery at 9:15. I’ve been to this restaurant before with some close friends but taking my girlfriend here for the first time was the biggest slap in the face. The GM came over and handled the situation great, but my impression was already rock bottom at that point, thank you for...
