We have gone to this restaurant a few times pre and post covid times to support local businesses. In the past we were satisfied. But our latest experience will be our last experience there. The coffee wasn't it's usual rich brew it was watery, thin and flavorless. The potatos were dry, mealy and stale. It seemed they were previously cooked and just warmed through. The bacon was the worst. We ordered 2 plates that included bacon. One out of my 3 were fresh and crispy the other 2 weren't and looked different. My husband's 6 bacons all looked as my sad bacon looked. In the past we have enjoyed the crispy bacon at this place, but this time it was tough, fibrous, dry and chewy. There was no crispiness to it. It was clearly old, dehydrated and reheated bacon. We heard a microwave bell while we were waiting for our food...who knows it was our bacon or not. I wish we paid closer attention to the preparation. When we kindly mentioned this to Maggie, she was defensive and said "You asked for crispy. So do you not want crispy?" She was rude and not willing to hear or look at the bacon that we were showing her as we pulled it apart. She went and talked to the cook. Who eventually came to our table and was also defensive and said "you wanted them crispy. So is did that.!" I responded and manouvered the bacon so he could see, "the bacon isn't crispy, it is dry and tough and bends, there is no crisp to it." Rather than do what proper customer service etiquette would dictate and make us a proper fresh batch of bacon. He rudly said "Well I could dip them in water to make them softer. You know that's what people do if it is dry." We never heard of such a thing and such nonsense. Placing cooked food in water rejuvenates it??!! Right away, that spoke volumes of the cooking practice and service of Maggie, this cook and her establishment. I asked for the $40 bill.
No discount or apology was ever offered to us by Maggie. We are thoroughly disappointed and disgusted by such practices. In this time of business turmoil, please spend your hard earned money at a restaurant that values customers and proper, cooking practices....
Ā Ā Ā Read moreFrom time to time you discover a gem of a restaurant. It's even better when you find it by accident. Well, that's how I discovered Maggie's Diner: my usual breakfast place was closed and a quick google maps search brought me to Maggie's. And I haven't looked back.
This place is a GEM of Port Credit.
The portions are hefty, and the quality is exceptionally high. When you hear the word 'diner' it brings up images of greasy food that's either devoid of any flavour whatsoever, of saturated in salt. Maggie's is neither. The food is delicious, perfectly prepared, and well priced.
As a vegan, it's often tricky for me to find food in non-vegan restaurants. Fortunately, Maggie and her husband/cook Sam are accommodating and helpful, not to mention super friendly and down to earth. When you first try this place, Maggie will greet you at the door with a genuine smile, and the next time you drop in, she'll welcome you by your first name because she will have spent time chatting with you during your first visit.
Maggie's energy and friendliness are infectious, and everyone who comes in seems to catch it. It's common for customers to strike up conversations with each other because that's just the kind of place it is.
If there's one business I want to see blessed with success, it's Maggie's Diner. Authentically great food, great people, and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThere's no shortage of breakfast places in Port Credit (Sunset Grill, Captain Robin's, etc.) but the newly opened Peter's is the best of the bunch. I've only been twice so far but will absolutely continue to make it my first choice. The Eggs Florentine are great and so are the home fries...the latter being among the best I've ever had.
Nice, clean and modern interior (I should hope so for a recently opened place, but one never knows) not to mention really outstanding service. If there's one thing I find that most breakfast joints seem to lack, it's friendly service. I know that mornings aren't synonymous with cheerful, happy service but this is where Peter's really puts the other places to shame.
My one minor quibble: no hot sauce on the table. Ketchup (ugh) but no hot sauce. I'm giving them five stars anyways, but if they want to hang on to that rating, I'd strongly advice them to put some Tabasco on the table waiting for me! :P
Edit It's now called "Maggie's". Same place, same great food, new...
