Zorro's is a legend in our family as my father was one of the original patrons and we went there VERY often as a family in the 1970s and 80s. Frank always formally greeted my dad by name (Good to see you, Mr. W) & even recognized him after a year absence! Frank would comp us dessert and drinks on basically every visit. We moved quite a distance away so I hadn't been in about 25 years but this past Saturday my husband built our weekend around a special dinner at Zorro's. It was a real trip down memory lane with some pros & some disappointments.
Upon arrival, we were made to wait 20 minutes in a bizarre little "waiting room" despite having a reservation. This would never have happened in the past & this waiting room is a narrow room crammed with furniture where everyone has to shift & get up if anyone has to move in & out. Definitely did not have this in the 80s & never had to wait. Honestly they would be better to convert the coat check room into a waiting area as hardly anyone seemed to check their coats anymore. After about 15 min the host (assume an owner) came & asked if we wanted a drink and I thought okay this is more like it, they are going to comp us a drink for having to wait. But no, they charged us $12 each & honestly it was probably the worst Caesar cocktail I have ever had. When we were finally seated I was thrilled to see that the restaurant looked basically identical to the old days! And even more thrilled that the garlic bread is to die for, as it always was! Pickles & olives were also excellent. I am such an old-timer that I remember when the pickle tray came with cottage cheese on it. That only lasted a few years. Also originally all meals came with soup AND salad, but that was later changed to either/or. Now it is salad only. Originally all meals were served on wooden cutting boards - so cool...
We decided to order the Caesar salad as the menu said it was still prepared tableside, just like in the old days. Was SO DISAPPOINTED when it was simply delivered on a plate, just like anywhere else. The only reason we splurged on $18 each Caesar salad was for the nostalgia of it being prepared tableside. When we asked about this the waiter stumbled through some sort of excuse that it was too busy to prepare it tableside. Would have been nice to have been told this ahead of time as we would have just had the salad that comes with the meal and saved $40+. (Which, btw, we were never offered the salad that came with the meal. Even though we ordered the Caesar salad, it should have been offered as well).
We ordered the Zorro's Platter for Two as this was always my favourite in the past. It was as delicious and as plentiful as ever with more than enough coming home with us for another meal for two the next day. Market price was $250, so definitely very pricey but it does not disappoint. Dessert was reasonably priced, only $8 and easily big enough to split.
It was so nice to be in a restaurant that, although fully packed, was not deafening. We could hear each other speak without raising our voices. Unfortunately, and this is not the restaurant's fault, rude people on their phones can work to spoil any atmosphere. There were phones out everywhere, with the people at the table next to us loudly watching videos as well as video chatting. F-bombs were dropped regularly.
Our waiter was just okay. Not friendly, just perfunctory, which was disappointing. He even hit me in the nose with a plate as he reached over my head to sneak in the plates for our meal without me even realizing he was there. We laughed it off, but it was pretty unprofessional. By dessert time, as the place cleared out, a more experienced, personable, friendly and knowledgeable waiter took over and it was much more enjoyable.
All in all, we were glad we went for a special meal and a trip down memory lane as Zorro's was an iconic part of my childhood. We spent $425 for 2 drinks, 2 salads, the platter, one dessert & 2 coffees so it is a bit over-the-top expensive especially considering the wait time & the not-as-advertised...

The restaurant does not allow 1 star rating to show on their website for viewers to read, so this is the only way to leave an honest review.
This is the worst steakhouse restaurant I have ever dined at. Let’s just start with the service and the waiters who tended to us for 50th birthday celebration. The first thing they asked as we sat was “how are you paying?”, that’s the only greeting we got from the waiter (very old guy, partially balled & wears thick glasses). He then brought the menus to us then came back two minutes later to take our order. PS: the menu doesn’t have a beverage section. When we told him we needed some more time, he said “ rush hour is soon so you should order all of your food now. When the salads arrived, it was just literally lettuce and ranch (white and green) & that’s their garden salad which is $18 if ordered separately. The same server then came to take our meals and when we asked questions about making exceptions due to preference, he said we don’t have that or we can’t do that. Basically saying you must take what we have on the menu. He was rushing and didn’t care to listen or make changes of any kind. The meals were awful!!! The steak was Dry and unseasoned, the baked potatoes were boiled (not baked) and was never offered sour cream, chives or even some butter (we had to beg for it), and when the sour cream came, they slapped it onto our plates with a spoon and said “we don’t offer this with the potatoes”. The pasta was watery and tasteless. The presentation of all the meals we had were terrible. One of the servers walked away while we were speaking to him and refused to acknowledge us after being rude. While we were chatting and trying to taste the horrible meals, one of the servers would come every 5 mins to check out tables to take whatever they thought was not being used, he just grabbed things without asking. Every single meal we ordered was taken in a to-go bag, because we wanted to vomit. We spoke with the manager just to bring awareness to the madness, and he acknowledged and apologized but made a not so funny remark about us, not professional at all.
The food is overpriced and tasteless, the services is the worst and they sell a dream on...
Read moreDisappointing Experience at a Supposedly Top-Notch Steakhouse I traveled from out of town and was looking for a good steakhouse for dinner and was expecting a premium dining experience. Unfortunately, it fell short in several key areas. From the start, our waiter didn’t listen to our requests, which led to an overcharged bill. We felt rushed while ordering, which made the experience feel more transactional than welcoming. The food itself was just okay—not what you'd expect from a place that markets itself as high-end. The atmosphere and ambiance were lacking. To make matters worse, the prices I was quoted over the phone didn’t match what appeared on the final bill, which felt misleading. What I ordered was like a surf and turf dinner meal and was going to share this with my sister so I just ordered an extra lobster tail on the side ( not a meal) and I was charged for a full lobster tail meal I wish that the waiter had told me this when taking the order I would have not ordered this. Because I did not eat my salad, rice or other sides it came with I feel like it was such a waste. I had I told the waiter about this and about the bill and it just seemed like he did not care. I wish I would have asked for the manager especially about the misleading pricing I was given because had I known the true prices when I called I would have not gone to that restaurant. But then again im not one to complain at restaurants this is the first time ever because I feel like this experience ruined my night because I was very disappointed. Overall, I wouldn’t return and wouldn’t recommend it to others. There are better places that offer quality food, honest pricing, and a more enjoyable...
