My wife and I were looking for a nice and unique dining experience to celebrate our anniversary. We decided on Sophia & Spritz, a modern Italian restaurant located on the ground floor off the lobby of the Four Seasons hotel on Lady Ada in Moncton.
Parking was easy and convenient in the large hotel parking lot.
This restaurant is adult oriented and is upscale. It has a modern, clean, chique design and the bar and kitchen are visible to the clientele. It's a good sized restaurant with many tables. We went on a Saturday night with a 5 pm reservation. The tables filled up quickly during our meal.
The food and service were good. There was efficient teamwork between the staff. Orders were placed quickly, food was served hot, and dishes were cleared promptly between courses. A minor omission of silverware with desert was quickly remedied. Even though the restaurant was busy, there was ample staff and they worked well together to provide a memorable experience.
The menu had three sections: one for appetizers, one for pastas, and one for meat and fish. Expect the portions to overall be generous, overly so for some items. You will not be hungry after your meal.
We had cocktails to start. I had a Montenegro Martini and my wife had a Sophia's Spritz. Both were delicious.
The food was flavourful and nicely plated. Crispy warm bread and olive oil started us off. We shared a wrapped mozzarella ball appetizer which was delicious and seemed to be a popular choice. For our mains, we enjoyed the Carne E Polenta and Seafood lasagna.
The seafood lasagna was an overly large slab of spinach pasta with a seafood bechemel sauce over it. This dish would better with half the lasagna and the full seafood serving. The seafood was plentiful and tender. It was tasty and nicely plated.
The Carne E Polenta was a more appropriate portion. It was rich and creamy and the grilled parsnips on the side were lovely. This plate was perfect. The tender and rich meat cubes sauce is also available with pasta instead of polenta if you prefer.
For desert, we easily shared a Chocolate Mousse Dome which was delicious.
Portions could be more consistent between options because there is quite a variance. Looking at online photos, some plates look overly large. The restaurant controls the price and portion. This could improve the overall experience. I suggest that you take the time to view the meal photos online to gauge the portion to see if it matches your appetite.
The total of $123 after tax but before tip was a good value for two cocktails, a sharable appetizer, two mains, and a shareable desert.
We really enjoyed our experience. The younger team worked well to make it a good one. We appreciated the complimentary glasses of champagne to mark our anniversary. It was a great evening out at a sophisticated and comfortable restaurant and we...
Read moreWent out for a valentine's date with my spouse (planned a month prior) and was quite disappointed in how my situation was dealt with. Our reservations was at 7:15pm and we got seated shortly after. got our drinks and appetizers and came within a reasonable time (being valentines it's was busy) so i understood there maybe a bit of a longer wait as I'm a kitchen manager. Ordered the lobster arancini for appetizers and a beer and the valentines drink and was just what I expected and came out pretty quickly. My spouse had the salmon and I had the short rib and here's where it goes downhill from here. Short rib was completely cold (42$ dish thier most expensive dish i belive). The fat was still congealed in the middle meaning it wasn't even temperature checked before getting sent out which IS VERY ALARMING as this tells me food safety isn't at the utmost importance here. Notified my server and she got it "re-fired" After waiting roughly 40 minutes for our mains after our appetizer I just wasn't feeling it anymore, it really killed my buzz especially as my main was cold and nothing got done about it besides taking off a 6.50$ beer off my bill which wasn't the issue. The bill was 158$ with tip and that's the real disappointing factor..... and left me confused and just unhappy. That's a decent amount of money for 2 people in today's economy and for my meal to be cold and they way they handled it was poor. presumably my meal was microwaved, and thrown into a take out container. as it came out in about 5 minutes our server specifically told us it's one of the longest dishes to cook (roughly 15 minutes is what she said). As a kitchen manager at a competing itialian restrant, i told myself there's definitely a few missed opportunities here, food safety being the utmost importance and charging full price for a meal that was cold is just baffling, If this happend at my restaurant that meal would've been free without hesitation. My assumption of the experience is after the appetizers were done the server forgot to fire the mains to the kitchen resulting in the 40 minutes between finishing our app and getting our mains. Kitchen rushed the food didn't get temp check the short rib and was sent out cold. Definitely missed the mark for a place with such...

Restaurant is extremely well designed. Classy and elegant. Kitchen exposed (reminds me of Hell's Kitchen without the yelling) The cooks/Chefs are clearly working well together.
Was alone, asked hostess for quiet spot as it was quite loud. People clearly enjoying themselves which was a great ambiance 😀 Found a quiet corner booth area.
Waiter (Christian) very comfortable with the menu. Was personable and enthusiastic about the food.
Love the utensils, plates, napkins and overall chairs/tables. Comfortable, high end.
First Act (appetizers) chosen was Scallops. 18$ received 3 of them in a very artistic display of colors. Appetizing to the eye! It took 7 mins from the time of order to receive. It was different from the usual garlicky seafood taste scallops are usually followed by. Puree was delicious. A bit of an earthy taste.. like potato/pumpkin mix. Pine nuts gave it texture even more.
Second Act (Entree) I took the Ragu Di Pappardelle 23$ which is essentially a mix of various meats atop homemade pasta with a beefy cream sauce. Reminded me of a "Sipâtes" my family makes every year for the holidays. The dish would have been perfect had it not been rushed. It took 2 mins after I was done with the Appetizer for this to come out. It's as if it was waiting for someone to order it. It looked a bit thrown together in the bowl and the pasta was "mushy" which was overcooked. But for the price, the portion was huge and this was a Filling Meal.
I was too full for Act 3 which was a final entree so I opted for desert instead. The chocolate mousse dome for 12$. Being a big fan of chocolate, my hope was for this desert to impress! AND IT DID! It was delicious! The portion was appropriate for the price. It looked AMAZING and I could tell it wasn't pre-assembled. Now THAT felt gastronomic. I was too full to.finish it off but wowzers!
A Cappuccino or Esspresso would've been nice to top that off but I guess they don't have one... YET. Maybe next time I'm down and bring MY ENTIRE FAMILY they'll surprise us!
Overall I'd give this meal a 4.6/5. It wasn't bad enough to warrant 1 star off! Service and staff is top notch.
Italian is my favorite type of food....
