I'd recommend this place for work suppers (employee teams) or families who enjoy goofy entertainment and who like to participate with the chef. I don't recommend this spot for more introverted or quiet individuals (unless you have your extroverted social buffer with you).
Staff and chefs are very nice and accommodating.
The drinks are nice and colorful, very tasty. Was disappointed that they didn't have Asahi beer which is actually Japanese but instead carry Sapporo and a Chinese brand.
All around the food is ok. The entres are good, I'd recommend the tempuras; freshly fried and crispy. The gyoza was good too.
With your main course you get complementary soup and salad. Soup is an unknown broth with green onions, bread crumbs and raw mushroom slices. Subpar.
The salad was good, the produce seemed fresh and the sauce was creamy sesame style.
The chefs are clearly putting on a show and being silly about it. Some use the grill as their opportunity to sing the entire time. Thankfully our chef didn't sing the entire time. Hats off to them for putting on a show, I can tell that some don't like being extra silly. And honestly it's not supposed to be like that so I don't blame them.
The fried rice, meats and seafood are cooked in front of you. The chefs have very good skills; egg toss, fire show, shapes with the rice, etc...The food is seasoned with soy sauce and butter. It was on the salty side but filling. You also get a side of noodles.
I've been to other Japanese grills and compared to those, this one is more bottom tier. The only thing Japanese here is the concept. Most of the food is generally Asian but not Japanese. You go here for...
Read moreBooked a spot for 2 people for mine and my partners 2 year anniversary and we were very disappointed by the treatment we received by the chef during the cooking aspect of the experience.
Our server was alright, moderately attentive except at the end when she didn't check on us as we awkwardly sat there for 15 minutes after dinner. But the real issue is that we were regrettably seated next to a party of 7 who were extremely loud, rude and rowdy, which completely ruined the experience for us. I get the restaurant can't control who their guests are, but once the chef and servers saw they were ordering multiple drinks, appetizers, etc, everyone just flocked towards providing them the best service and experience, but at the expense of mostly disregarding my partner and I.
The chef engaged with us once or twice, but actively let the larger party partake in cooking, doing egg tricks, joking with them in french, etc. Meanwhile when I booked the reservation, I specifically asked for a chef who could engage with us in English, and I even called in prior to making the reservation to make sure this could be accommodated. This accomodation was not met.
For $85 per person (we had 1 vegetarian meal, 1 meat meal, no apps and 1.5 drinks each), we were extremely disappointed by the overall experience. Which is really a shame, since it was my partners first time going for hibachi, and I was really excited...
Read moreMy recent visit to Benihana was a mixed experience, with some standout elements and significant disappointments. It was especially a letdown since this was the last meal for my friend’s birthday trip, which we traveled all the way from Toronto to celebrate. The service was exceptional—our server was attentive, friendly, and ensured our waters stayed full throughout the meal. The staff, including the hibachi chef, were engaging and gave a lively performance. The atmosphere was vibrant, and the drinks were another highlight; the cocktail menu was creative, and our martinis and sake were incredible.
Unfortunately, the food was beyond a major letdown. The noodles, a staple of the hibachi experience, were overwhelmingly salty, to the point of being nearly inedible. The steak, chicken, and scallops were undercooked, arriving practically raw, with the exception of the shrimp, which was the only properly prepared protein. This left our entire party feeling uneasy. The poorly cooked dishes and excessive saltiness killed our appetites, and we left feeling we paid top dollar for inedible food.
While the service, staff, drinks, and atmosphere were truly amazing, the subpar food quality—especially the salty noodles and undercooked meats—made it hard to fully enjoy the experience, especially for such a special occasion. I hope Benihana can address these...
