First let me say that this is a very polite owner super respectful on the phone super respectful in person great service very accommodating, in many ways When I called in the order I believe I spoke with Jimmy, super nice, not rushed or anything. My review will be negative but I have to say I respect the owner and the men working there, they were super polite . After hearing Sooo much about this pizza place, I decided to try it yesterday. A small cheese and a medium all dressed and a fry. Picked it up. I got home within 10 minutes from picking it up. It was still hot. The traditional scent of pizza on the drive home, was bringing back memories of the greek owned pizza joints in park-extention from the 70s. Miss Jean Talon, pizza on St-Roch & Querbes, even Marven's ( ya they used to make pizza)...
I get home open the boxes and unfortunately I knew right then this was not gonna be good. Pizza was made a little sloppy. (no no, I drove slow and boxes were secure).. Pep on top as i requested but not a generous amount- not more than 6 to 8 slices over the top..and if plastic had a taste- this could be it . Tasteless pepp. Tasteless sauce, cheese so thick and stringy I choked twice, it was like eating an elastic. Dough was good when you bit into it but then the bottom edge was tough as rubber. You needed to rip it off to get your bite, like eating day old softed crust bread..dense and tough. The cheese was like glazed resin, i literally was worried on my kids choking and had my 9 year old take a bite of his cheese pizza in front of me - I didn't critique it in front of him, but asked how he liked it. He said, "hard to chew Dad"..I said, that's all i needed to hear. I threw it out and ordered him a flawless Pendellis pizza. I didn't want to chance a child choking on that crust and that ridiculous amount of hardened cheese. Btw fries..so-so..nothing special. I was expecting a great traditional pizza, my friends raved about it, but in the end- it was disappointing. Maybe they had a bad day, a bad batch of ingredients, maybe a mix up in the dough mix..Who knows.. but at $35.00 for 2 pies and a small fry... I might try it again just for myself because I really like the service .. maybe I'll ask for lesser cheese as I know now what to expect... I'll always give a second chance but this firsr impression was not what I expected..
Even the pictures of some pizzas that people put under their review articles, I mean the pictures of the pizzas didn't look like anything at all to what I received, not even close. And I understand sometimes owners use pictures for advertising and they prop up a great looking perfect pizza for the ads and so forth; etc.. but this was really not even close, not in the same ballpark.. But that's the thing with trying new places..it's a hit or miss..Speaking about "miss"...Yes Miss Jean Talon indeed is...
Read moreHadn’t been there in years… if I recall, Jimmy’s the owner’s name, and wanted some good pizza…
It did not disappoint, if anything it was better than I remembered!
When telling him how much we were enjoying his pizza, he gave a great rundown, his sauce, using best imported ingredients, mother’s recipe, dough made specially to the perfect crisp, fluffiness, texture and light complimentary taste, and reasonably generous with all his ingredients. The taste was a well balanced filling Montreal style thick slice pizza, yummy 🍕
When I asked what happened to his great Greek food, was told he streamlined his menu, but got a chance taste his amazing tzatziki, dipping it with his pizza dough 😋
Btw have 5 stars for ambiance, as it’s almost chintzy but rather comfy and old school homey Greek mom and pop resto feel. The people and food inside make it a wonderful experience.
Will definately come again, one of the best pizzas on or off...
Read moreThere were only two restaurants on the island of Montreal from which I would order pizza: Coronet and another place that shall remain nameless. But now it's just Coronet, as I have since banned that second establishment.
A previous reviewer said that he needs his pizza fix at least once a month. For me, it's once a week, and a medium pepperoni with half onions from Coronet definitely satisfies. Plus, the dough is so thick and the toppings so generously heaped on that there is plenty left over for the next day. (So my once-a-week fix turns into TWICE a week.)
That being said, I cannot, however, recommend their lasagna, as, after trying it once, I found the meat sauce very oily and a bit too heavy on the cinnamon (or cloves). But that's okay—I have the ideal source for my lasagna fix...
