Horrible Horrible customer service by the owner and the manager of Da Vinci. I am from Toronto and have never seen such unclassy and uncouth behavior in my life! Basically I asked to make a modification to a pasta dish which is not very uncommon from where I come from. I asked if it could be changed from a butter sauce to a creme sauce. I was told by the server that it could be done and that he will let the kitchen know. When I got my dish it was the original butter sauce and was not changed to the creme sauce as I requested. When I asked the server about it he started arguing with me telling me thats what I ordered and that they do not do any modifications here. I asked him why did he say okay and that he will let the kitchen know if that was not the case? I asked him politely if I may I order something else off the menu since modifications are not allowed and it was mentioned to me. He then made a point to tell me he will still charge me for the original order that they "messed up on". I asked to speak to the head manager he said he was the manager. I then asked to speak to someone above him and he then gave me the nastiest glare for about 2 minutes and just stood there while my husband was trying to eat his meal. My husbands food got cold in this process and we felt most uncomfortable. The owner than comes over and he was just as rude, supporting his horrible staff. The owner was becoming defensive and argumentative telling me they do not make modifications here and mocked me for my request for "creme "sauce. I told him being pregnant I had a craving and wanted a creme sauce and he started to school me on sauces and why they do not offer creme sauce at their restaurant being a true Italian this is not something true Italians eat. I was wondering as a true Italian where did his Italian hospitality go? True Italians also show their guests hospitality and have manners and as an Italian owner of a restaurant he clearly forgot his I was thinking. My husbands seafood pasta got cold in this process and after this banter we told the owner the seafood pasta got cold. He just laughed and said that the dish tastes better cold anyway. Rude, disgusting and disappointed so we ended up paying for one dish and drinks and we left. It was a horrible dinner, I was left hungry with nothing to eat and my husbands seafood dish was flavorless and cold and he never finished it. I will never return back here and would never recommend this restaurant to anyone since they have 0 value for customers and...
Read moreMade reservations for dinner about 6-7hrs ahead of time that day. Husband and I found this resto on Google maps. Wednesday night on September 13 at 815PM was our reservation time. Came in and immediately greeted and seated. After a day filled with eating and meeting amazing servers at various restaurants we decided to forgo appetizers and drinks and just split an entree and dessert since we were so stuffed. My main complaint is that the servers were not friendly at all with us. There were two servers coming to our table and moving around us, one of them would worldlessly set food (some sort of small complimentary appetizer with tomato and olives and bread with vinegar and olive oil) in front of us, barely looking at us while he did it. We didn’t order it, so you would think he’d explain what was in front of us, but he didn’t explain what it was at all. Not sure if he could speak English or not but like I said he barely looked at us and didn’t even smile even though I smiled and tried to make eye contact and even tried speaking a bit of French like we’ve been doing to the delight of other servers during our vacation here. Didn’t ask us if we had questions about the menu at all. And then the other server came maybe 2-3 times during our 1.5hrs there, barely spoke and yet I saw him checking on the other tables next to us repeatedly without their prompting/calling for him. I assume he was supposed to be our main server but again not sure bc the two servers barely gave us a second thought. Our food came, the Osso Bucco and no one ever came to ask if we liked the meal or to check on us (it was delicious thankfully).Part of the money spent at places like this is supposed to include great service as part of the experience, and I could see if they were understaffed but like I said, the tables around us got excellent service, the kind of service I’m used to experiencing no matter where I go. One of our servers was a darker slim gentleman and the other was a white balding older gentleman, didn’t even get their names because they didn’t bother to introduce themselves.
Didn’t even get dessert like I wanted bc the service was so offputting…and I did want dessert bc I asked at the beginning of the night and got told that I had to wait, and even though we sat with a clean plate no one came for 10 min meanwhile the table next to us got offered dessert with...
Read moreI regret going to this restaurant - it's a nightmare if you're going with a group. I feel like the waiters scammed our group and duped us by bringing hundreds of dollars worth of food we did NOT order. I felt railroaded into paying for food (e.g. $27 appetizer) I didn't order, didn't want, and if I tried to quibble, I would have looked cheap in front of the colleagues at my table, who I had just met that day. I had the worst bill-paying experience of my life here. It took an hour. When I saw the bill, I pointed out to the waiter that I didn't order the appetizer, and I very clearly and politely refused it during the meal; I didn't eat it, and ended up paying for it. The waiter I spoke to seemed sheepish, but made me pay anyway. In total, I paid $95 for what I ate: a plate of mediocre pasta (which cost $22, at least I saw that in the menu before it arrived at the table) and a glass and a half of wine, just so that I could leave. They just brought food and wine without letting us know the prices, or giving us a chance to say no. When we were seated, the head waiter announced what their appetizer was (it didn't appeal to me), and before they gave us menus, they simply brought out appetizers for everyone, and we only found out when the bill came (we had asked for separate bills, and this request was ignored by the waiters), that the appetizers cost $27 each. I had a glass and a half of wine, and learned that the wine was billed by the bottle, so what then followed was a bunch of strangers who had to haggle and figure out who drank how much wine, to split up the cost. I was not given the option to order wine by the glass. I did not eat an appetizer, as I didn't care for the food, but mostly because I only ordered food that I was hungry to eat - I didn't want to waste food. The waiters insisted that no one could leave until the entire bill was paid, which took an hour, for everyone to decipher their part of the bill. It was truly awful. It seemed like the restaurant staff got "dollar signs" in their eyes, from the moment we walked into the restaurant. This place blew my budget, the food was mediocre. I wish I...
