I went to go and get a sandwich today and had my first real disappointing experience at this Dagwood's location. It's a husband & wife operation, and despite being close to the Loyola campus at Concordia, i find it's never that busy. Anyhow, there was a guy ahead of me, and while he was still being served the husband/gentleman asked me for my order. I told him finish slicing the ham for the guy and i'll order then. Anyhow, he did not wait and asked me for my order. I was very clear that i wanted it on brown bread (whole wheat) and not white. Without even looking he takes out the white bread, slices it and his wife is already prepping the cheese on one side of the bread. Oh, i should note that i ordered two small sandwiches, two different sandwiches. I right away said that he took the wrong bread. Anyhow, he argued with me that i did request white bread for one of the two sandwiches. I told him that that was not the case. And he acted like it was my fault. Also, had they paused a second, i would've had told them no cheese. And first of all, they're supposed to ask and just assume that the customer wants cheese. Anyhow, i admit that i was a bit rude, but i really didn't like their attitude and defensiveness, so i responded in kind. I told them to forget about the order, that i don't like their attitude, and left. As for the cheese that i didn't want, i heard the guy in front of me agree to take it and put on his sandwich. Thanks guy, whoever you were for salvaging the unwanted cheese. Just to say to that couple, don't argue with the customer when they are reasonable. Just accept your mistake and do the best to correct it. Had you done that, i would've been satisfied to proceed with my order. Now, i don't plan on returning, so you've lost a...
Read moreOrdered 2 sandwiches for pick-up, and was given an estimated 12:42 time they'd be done. I was working, so I took my lunch and planned around this pick-up time with my partner who I was trying to meet for lunch. I arrived to pick them up about 5 mins after the estimated time, allowing a little buffer. The long and short of it is I waited for about 35-40 mins after my estimated time before they got my sandwiches done. At least 10-12 walk-in customers were served more quickly than my pre-order. I normally wouldn't care, but this defeats the purpose of pre-ordering your food if I could've just stood in line and got my food significantly faster. I would have done this if I hadn't already paid online.
I understand things get busy, but I think most customers would expect that pre-orders will be ready at least close to the scheduled time. That's the whole point of ordering ahead. The staff also didn't seem too concerned. There were 2 ladies working at the time. I was told they'd get to my order once they were finished helping the customers in line. After 30 mins went by of waiting after my scheduled time, I had to ask again. When I eventually got my order, there was no apology or even acknowledgement, which is whatever, but it felt kind of cold. Given the service, and quality of what you get, not sure I'd care much to...
Read moreI've been going to either the NDG or the Westmount shop once or twice a week for a while now. Ì like the subs and both stores are a nice walk from my place. Of course the server makes a huge difference. Most are fine, but some aren't really listening. For example, they'll try to toast it even if I already said no. Ì get it. It can be a long day.
But lately a new server has made me pass on dagwoods. One time she kept trying to add pickles; which I detest. Ì thought she understood after I spoke to her twice. But at home, I found she had loaded it with pickles. The juice had soaked into the sub to the point I found it inedible. Ì just threw it out. Ì then skipped it for a couple of weeks before trying again.
I had to actually raise my voice as she tried twice to add pickles. When I got home, I discovered a lone pickle garnishing my meal. Is that a joke? Does she own stock in a condiment company? This may seem minor, but the subs are $13 to $16. That is too much to waste. 5 stars ordinarily, but only one when pickle girl is working. Ì doubt I'll...
