So glad we found this place!!! Food was delicious and very reasonably priced! And yes they are BYOB which is amazing that you get to taste amazing French food without having to pay top dollars for the wine to pair with!
We had a bit problem looking for parking around the area and to our surprise, the nice waitress/hostess, Lahonse (not sure how to spell her name) gave us a special permit to park right across the street from the restaurant.
Menu was all in French. We were definitely not 100% sure what we were looking at. The owner was a lovely man and speaks mainly French. we had a bit difficulties communicating with him in English but were at least able to place our orders.
We had the salad, lentil soup to start our meal, it was delicious. For appetizers, I had the foie gras and my hubby had the salmon tataki. And both were excellent. Salmon tataki was slightly salty however. I'm usually not a foie gras person or crave it but figured I had to get it in a French place right? The foie gras was really really good and the amount they gave out was impressive!
For entrees, my hubby had the seabass and i thought I ordered the osso buco but I got the lamb cheek stew instead..LOL..I'm not complaining tho since the lamb cheek was really good! The lamb was cooked very tenderly and was in this very savory stew with different vegetables. My hubbys seabass was excellent.
For dessert, W had the cream brûlée and the Paris Brest and OMG! They were ahhhh-mazing!!!! The cream brûlée was hands down THE creamiest cream brûlée I've had!!! Sooooooo good I wanted to lick the plate after! And the Paris Brest was really really good as well!!! So flavor was so delicate and not overly sweet. I could eat this everyday if I could!
The ambiance was very cute and cozy. And our waitress, Lahonse (not sure how to spell her name!) was just a lovely girl.
The price was very reasonable as well for the quality and delicious food we had! We even had some left overs to take home!
Overall this place was great and highly...
Read moreWhat a lovely Christmas Eve dinner! We are visiting from the States and our drive time of 5 hours was doubled due to a storm, so we missed our reservations but thankfully there was room at the second sitting. Slightly awkward when you first enter because it's such a small and intimate setting and was obviously full from the first seating, but this is part of why it is so charming and romantic. The food was delicious - I am surprised to say I have not had nearly enough French food in my life and intend on changing that asap. The rhutabega soup was light but had excellent depth to it. My bfs braised beef and goat cheese puffed pastry was surprising and delightful as was my gnocchi with calamari - my Italian mouth was a bit confused at first but quickly came around to the unique flavor profile. Both the lamb and filet were cooked perfectly, meaning rare so keep this in mind if your tastes differ. Imo the portions were ample especially given the number of courses. I took home half my beef and all of my bfs dessert and we are currently enjoying midnight chocolate mousse with a bottle of champagne by the fire before Santa comes. The price...maybe I've been beat over the head with inflation but I was quite surprised at how reasonable such a high end meal was. Loves the BYOB/W factor which also contributed to how affordable the night was. We will definitely be back when we...
Read moreOur meal at Le Pegase this week was easily the best dining experience we've had in Montréal so far.
First off it's BYOB and they'll remind you when making your reservation to make sure to bring wine.
We opted for the "gourmet" fixed price. We started with the soup du jour which was a cauliflower. Simple, intense, and delicious.
For apps we had goat cheese profiteroles with pork cheeks and puréed beets. Perfect also. The beet flavor was fresh and complimented to goat cheese very well. My wife had escargot on a rocket salad with bone marrow. Also incredible.
For the main course I had the duck with mushroom sauce. The duck was cooked a touch beyond medium rare, but was flavorful and still quite tender. The mushroom sauce was quite good. All the vegetables were cooked appropriately to al dente.
My wife had the swordfish. She's not generally a fan of steak-type fish, but this was very well executed. Perfectly cooked, very tender. The coconut sauce was also delicious.
We split a couple of the desserts. Seems you can't go wrong with any of these options. They were amazing.
The service was the best we've had at a restaurant in Montreal. The head waiter was engaging, funny, and stayed on top of everything.
The portions were very generous. All of this and we spent less than $60 per person. An incredible experience. We will definitely...
