Disappointing Dining Experience – Poor Food, Hygiene, and Service
The food was mediocre at best—overfried, excessively oily, and tasting like it had been microwaved. While it might appeal to non-Indian patrons, for anyone familiar with authentic Indian flavors, the dishes were utterly bland and lacked depth. Every item seemed to have the same overpowering sauce drowning in oil, topped with excessive whipping cream, making all the dishes taste identical.
The Lacha Paratha we ordered had to be sent back because the dough was sour—clearly spoiled. Instead of acknowledging the mistake, the staff insisted it was supposed to taste that way, which was unacceptable. The "crispy" corn was another letdown—soggy, overfried kernels floating in oil, completely devoid of crunch or flavor.
The restaurant itself is run-down—dirty entrance, unclean tables and chairs, and a bar area cluttered with unwashed dishes. The ambience was poor, and basic amenities like table napkins were missing. When we asked for one, we were given a single napkin (in an Indian restaurant where most food is eaten with hands!).
Service was unprofessional—servers loudly chatting among themselves while walking past our table, treating the place like a street food stall rather than a proper dining establishment. It felt like they were more focused on managing online reviews than actual customer satisfaction.
I’m baffled by the positive ratings—perhaps Montreal’s standards for Indian food are low, but this was a subpar experience in every aspect. Not...

Those glowing 5-star reviews you see everywhere? Turns out it’s all a scam – they bribe customers with a free mango lassi if you promise to leave a perfect rating on the spot. No wonder the hype doesn’t match the reality. Save your cash and your evening; there are way better options out there. 1/5 stars, avoid at all costs!
I had heard so much buzz about this restaurant from friends and online, and I was excited to finally try it out. What a massive letdown! From start to finish, it was a mediocre experience at best, with dishes that were ridiculously expensive for what they delivered. The malai chaap was not only bland but had this off-putting, smelly aftertaste that made me question if it was even fresh. And don’t get me started on the rest of the meal – everything arrived with absolutely no salt, tasting like it was prepared by someone who forgot the basics of seasoning.
I specifically requested spicy food when ordering, emphasizing it to the server, but spicy? Ha, that was a joke. The dishes were so far from spicy ,zero flavor, and again, no salt to salvage anything. It felt like a total waste of time and money; we spent over an half and hour there, regretting every minute as we poked at our...
Read moreFrom the moment we walked into Masakali, we knew we were in for something special. The warm ambiance, attentive staff, and the aroma of freshly prepared dishes set the tone for an exceptional dining experience.
Every bite of food was a celebration of flavor — perfectly balanced, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. Whether it was the rich, aromatic curries, the melt-in-your-mouth kebabs, everything tasted authentic and full of soul. You can tell the chefs pour passion into every dish.
What truly sets Masakali apart, though, is the service. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely cared about making our meal enjoyable. They offered great recommendations and checked in just enough to make sure everything was perfect, without being intrusive.
Masakali isn’t just a restaurant — it’s a place where food becomes an experience. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, do yourself a favor and eat here. This is, without a doubt, one of the best dining experiences I’ve ever had.
Highly recommended — we’ll definitely be...
